I have a pair of $250 Sordins, but these $50 electronic muffs (Howard Leight) are every bit as good: http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct...tnumber=671923

Those, plus foam plugs, are a great combo.

Get the foam plugs from Walmart for $1.97 I think. They have a NRR32 rating whcih is very good. Most earmuffs are only in the mid 20's for NRR.

As far as a good place for muffs... don't forget Amazon. You can pick up everything from cheapies to howard leights and beyond.
I double up when shooting 50BMGs.

Under those I wear custom fit Ear Inc ear plugs when shooting indoors. They're made of silicon, and provide a very comfortable fit.

They were around $80 delivered and I had them fitted at a Reno gun show.

$80? Holy crap! The last time I had custom ear plugs made, I paid $35.

          They're under $300.

If you spend any amout of time on the gun forms with a lot of older members, like S&W Forums, The High Road, etc, you'll see lots of guys with tinnitus, talking about hearing crickets all the time. And how their hearing aids cost $2,000.00. I think $400 of prevention is worth it.
Right on. Indoor or outdoors it does not matter. Just protect your ears. Just double up if you feel that you have sensitive ears and if you don't want to have tinnitus or hearing loss when you get older

Hearing loss is no joke. Once lost, hearing is gone forever--it does not heal or regenerate.

Ear muffs alone are often not enough to completely protect one's hearing. All it takes is one guy indoors w/ a magnum snubby or outdoors with a baffle brake, and POW! Permanent hearing loss. If you shoot a lot, that adds up fast.

            Double up people.
