Just use those orange 3M ear plugs...29 decibel rated and you can get a box of 200 for $20...

I use a cheap pair of Winchester muffs from Walmart over a set of plugs.

I'm guessing you're an indoor shooter. I can ditch the foamies and just rock the muffs when I shoot outside.

As far as a good place for muffs... don't forget Amazon. You can pick up everything from cheapies to howard leights and beyond.

I don't know if you shoot inside or outside but foam works well outside and I've become used to using them inside.. Do they work (for me as well as muffs) no but it tones down the noise enough and and I cannot stand the muffs..

I did buy winchester rubber inserts that I would only use outside cuz they muffle the sound even less and I have a (headphone type) wrap around with foamies that dont work as well indoor but i hear (no pun intended) they're decent for outdoors.. My female friend i shoot with actually uses foamies + the muffs but she is a female can i cannot post any vag comments since she is a chick or else if i knew a guy that did it I would...

Anyways for indoor and a good lock on sound reduction I would say muffs but I like foam inserts, just gotta get em in deep enough and let them extract all the way and they work fine for me

wow i totally missed the question but yea.. I do know that Walmart sells muffs for a decent price and for noise reduction they appear to be the best.. If there is a WM near you hit em up and test em out, if you can find a better deal online which probly won't be much better then go for it.. muffs > foam inserts IMPO

I just read a thread yesterday about some "active" muffs at Walmart. With active muffs, you can still hear the conversations, but the shooting is blocked out.

These were supposedly all for $25.

I haven't checked them out yet, just what I read.

I think you are talking about the Champion series. I bought a pair the other day. They seemed to work well when I tested them at home. When I took them to the indoor range they were not adequate for me. Outside they might be ok.

I use the foam ones - buy them by the box - 200 pairs. They have teh highest NRR available - 33.

I also have a pair of muffs that I wear over them when I shoot at public ranges when it is busy.

Check this one out...I bought one a few months ago and it's been very good, very comfortable...I can wear it all day. It's a lot of good recommendations too and it's on sale now, just 20 bucks.

Yup. Outdors it's just foam plugs. I don't like wearing the muffs at all.

I've picked these up from both Midwayusa.com and my local Turners. They're electronic, comfortable and affordable. The ones I have are the slimmer verision, designed for both pistol and rifle shooting, still the same price. I take the batteries out after every range session just to be on the safe side.
