Yes, for a couple of decades now. The company is now run by Irv Stone III. They make some of the best pistol barrels out there. Good folks. His mother used to answer the phones and would actually recognize my voice. His mother's name was Barbara Stone. The name Bar-Sto comes from that.

haha - I felt the same way when I realized that LittleField Blowers (for Big Block Chevies/Hemi's) had been next to the company I worked for for 4 years. Small world huh? Ok - if you're not a motorhead, wouldn't be a big deal...

Bar-Sto, I blieve also was hired by Ruger for their P series handguns - P90 for sure (according to Ayoob). Quite a well respected company.

Irv the original and I did business several times in the 1970s...an honest, hard-working family and top quality as well.

Sadly, Irv passed away but his son's continue the quality tradition.

One thing about their barrels is sometimes they have to be fitted and are not
"drop in". So expect a long wait..be patient.. these folks are so good they usually have a backlog.....

I still have a .45 barrel they built for me and a Bar-stow barrel in my trusty
Browning Hi-Power. Never a hic up.

My competition 1911 I used to shoot had a bar-sto barrel.. good stuff. I thought I heard they were moving to South Dakota or something though?

If you're spending the money for one of their barrels I definitely would get it fitted by them or a very good pistolsmith, you don't want a drop-in if you can afford to have one properly fitted.

What makes their barrels better than the stock ones?

They are indeed moving to South Dakota and the move should be complete soon. They've already moved equipment there and they weren't at the Steel Challenge this year because of the move.

They make great barrels but their delivery time has been very slow. When they get moved in shipping time should be reduced.

Besides great barrels they also make a Cal legal pistol based off of an STI frame.
I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

I used one of their barrels in my last 1911 build. I was very impressed with the quality.

Irv is awesome. The barrels are terrific. A couple years ago, I had a bushing that needed replacement (I had a pistol with a Bar Sto barrel. Irv turned it around in about a week, maybe two including shipping. Awesome service, great product.

If I wanted a "semi-drop in" 9 mm barrel for my p229, is it suggested I send my gun for them to install it? I figured you just order it, and if it doesn't fit perfectly; then have it professionally addressed.

"What makes their barrels better than the stock ones?"

Dimensional accuracy, smoothness of bore finish and enough metal in the right places for the barrel to fit the gun properly for consistent lock up.

                          Moto,,,

A barrel really needs to be fitted to the individual weapon. If you order a so-called "drop-in", you'll get a barrel that's been dimensioned small enough to give assurance that it will fit your weapon. You pretty much guaranteed that it will be undersized in some respects. That's going to impact accuracy. It's really difficult to deal with those problems after they arise. The solution is that you need to add some metal to some portion of the barrel. It's technically possible to do a weld-up to add material, but it's really a lot easier to start off with a slightly oversize barrel and then carefully fit it to your specific weapon.
If you build a man a fire, you'll keep him warm for the evening. If you set a man on fire, you'll keep him warm for the rest of his life.
