You pretty much guaranteed that it will be undersized in some respects. That's going to impact accuracy. It's really difficult to deal with those problems after they arise. The solution is that you need to add some metal to some portion of the barrel. It's technically possible to do a weld-up to add material, but it's really a lot easier to start off with a slightly oversize barrel and then carefully fit it to your specific weapon.
So is that to say that the conversion barrels they sell, are not the way to go? Or should I buy one, but have them fit it properly. I always understood it to be "semi-drop in" meaning that it will fit most of the time, but may require modifications to properly fit. I am not trying to build a custom, super *****in competition pistol. I just want to be able to shoot 9mm in case I run out of .40.

Conversion barrels are the way to go! Sounds like you don't need to custom fit it.

Custom fit comes with custom price and custom problems.

Thats how i remember it too

I recently built my 1911, I used a semi drop in Bar-Sto barrel that dropped right in and was a perfect fit. I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet, this is my first 1911 build and i want a gun smith to go through it and make sure everything is GTG.
