Revolver vs. Semi-Auto, Coolness

nn3453.. seriously guy.. Did you even pay attention to the title of this thread? You somehow expected this to be a thoughtful and polite thread?
Revolvers are the coolest. followed by some of the classic semi autos in metal.. the plastic are at the bottom of the list of cool except for with some small groups of civilians who wear tactical underwear and shoot 200 rounds a year.
A 1911 is almost as cool as a revolver as is a high power except for it's weak caliber and the fact that in kalifornia.. you can only have ten round mags anyway.
Oh wait.. you didn't see any of this post.. I am on "ignore" .. sheesh.. ignore...Comment

I think overall revolvers have gone up in terms of "coolness" over that past few years. I can't prove it but it just seems that way to me. And in terms of current sales lightweight snubs are as popular as ever in the defensive handgun market. Its keeping the idea of the revolver alive for the current generation. But overall part of it is because I think semi-autos have become so ubiquitous that a revolver seems like a breath of fresh air. That's not to say revolvers are gonna make a come back over semi-autos. Ain't gonna happen.
Gee everyone........look at lazs. Don't you wish you were as cool and wise as he is? Remember, we're the ignorant unwashed masses. He's just here to "educate" the rest of us.Last edited by ianS; 06-30-2010, 9:46 AM.Comment

ianS.. first you speak for me telling me what I think and then you speak for "everyone" else. I think it is you who think the masses are ignorant not I.
Other than that.. your post was pretty on the mark. I think a lot of people are realizing that 5 rounds of .38+p or .357 in a small, 12 ounce or so revolver that is dependable in the extreme and capable of hitting man sized targets out to 100 yards.. is still a very very useful tool.
That most people don't carry full sized holster guns around with em all the time and that most of the subcompact semi autos are very much capable of failing you.
They also realize that after shooting at 7 yard targets that the guys having fun with their guns are the revolver guys shooting cans and such at 50-100 yards.
Or.. that if you want to have a reliable woods gun on your hip it should be a powerful revolver.
The flat old 1911 does feel good in the hand tho. The old 45 acp is fun to shoot and.. these days.. it is a very accurate gun at short range.
If your entire handgun life is spent at an indoor range then probly none of this makes sense.Comment

This face needs to be printed on the dollar bill!
BillCA, damn those revolvers are sexy. You have swayed me. Not gonna reproduce your whole post here, but it was entertaining and enlightening.
Some of these target guns look like crazy future space weapons, which are cool in their own right too.
Edit* Let's try to keep things somewhat civil, this thread is supposed to be some light hearted fun! No reason to get our hoisery in a bunchLast edited by Stupendous_Man; 06-30-2010, 11:40 AM."I sell propane and propane accessories."Comment

I love the look of classic blued revolvers with wooden grips, but I have big palms so I can never hold onto their grips well so I shoot like crap with them. As far as semi-auto's go I like the Browning Hi Power, retro 1911's, S&W 39's, and a few modern ones too.Comment

Which is cooler, a revolver or a semi-auto, and why? Disregard capacity, stopping power, reliability blah blah blah. Those are just words. I'm talking raw, unadulterated COOLness.
I guess I'll start. I find the semi-auto is cooler because there are more moving parts, and when you fire everything just looks and feels sexy.
A compelling argument for the revolver is that it just spans across genres. You've got great revolvers in all my favorite classic Westerns, plus, the Godfather III didn't do it for me, largely because of the switch to semi-autos from your classic 1940's mobster revolvers.
At the end of the day though, racking the slide on a semi-auto is just plain cool. So is having empty shell casing popping out with each shot. Much less cool to drop shell casings from a revolver.
In the end, I find pepperboxes, front loaders, break open actions (both side breaks and top breaks, lever action, and bolt action handguns to be "cooler" than your run of the mill wheelgun or semi auto pistol.NRA Certified Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun and Metallic Cartridge Reloading Instructor

While this is one of the most useless threads I've seen here, I feel the need to point out that many revolvers have more moving parts than many SA handguns. Also, retaining your cases instead of throwing them about could be considered "cooler" by many.
