Grease on slide rails

Not meaning to start a debate on grease vs. oil - but I've noticed that many are applying grease to slide rails - which I've never done. In my own mechanical experiences I would think a small amount of moly grease would be ok. What's this crowd doing?

I use gun oil for all of my pistols. I use GI weapon grease for M-1, M-1A rifles and Bolt action rifles.

I started using grease one the rail portions only within the last year or so. I do notice a difference in performance. The slide seems to move more smoothly during hand cycling and firing. I also like the fact that grease wont drip out of the grooves. The only downside is that the grease seems to attract and hold onto more carbon and grit.

I use grease for my metal frame guns, especially my alloy frame guns. Poly guns get oil.

I've applied it to both my 1911 and Sig. Currently I'm using lubriplate which I bought from a fellow Calgunner.

I put gun oil on the slides of polymer guns and a small amount of grease on the rails of all metal guns.

I don't clean my handguns that I shoot regularly until I shoot 500 or so rounds through em so I prefer stuff that is a little bit thicker like slide glide or in a pinch, just regular tranny fluid.

+1 for Tetra gun grease. I put it on high stress moving parts.
