Is this a southern California specific issue? Up here, there are tons of shops that carry 5.7x28 ammo, and commonly sub-$20 per box.

And boxes being 50rd not 20 like some ammo, makes it a bit more bearable.

My impression was too much plastic. Then I decided I liked it quite a bit after firing one. Nearly zero recoil, low noise, low drama. Easy to put rounds on target without using the sites. Somehow that must be from good ergonomics, low recoil causing less flinch type reaction, and good trigger pull.

They were made to penetrate bulletproof vests with the AP ammo. That ammo being illegal to own here and the price of the gun have me holding off on the purchase.

If the sticker shock didn't turn you away, I think you'll be pleased after firing it.

I suggest the SS197SR here for 400 and a few bucks shipped per 1k. Great prices. Enjoy the gun, i'm sure I would.

My friend has one and if I had the spare cash I'd buy one. It's a really interesting gun and it shoots very well. We priced the ammo and it seems to be close to 9mm pricing. Buy some over the internet while you can.

Come Feb 2011 mail ordering ammo will be illegal and I'm sure that ammo will be hard to get and probably priced high because it's not a common calibler.

              Enjoy,

It is controlled by ATF. AP pistol ammo is illegal.

I find it in most shops in San Diego, but the prices are typically around $25/box.

Wholesalehunter.com is one of the best places I've found to buy SS197 - currently $727/case, and sometimes they run a sale where individual boxes are ~$18. With the recent price change, ~$18/box is the lowest you'll probably find - if you find it for less, you've really found a deal.

fnforum.net tends to have private sales for all variants (SS197, SS195 and even SS192 and SS198) for reasonable prices also.

You made a great choice. Grats. That will be my next purchase if I ever acquire the funds.

Where did you find it for 1200? I just saw one the other day for sticker price 1400+.

Congrats on the purchase. I just WIki'd this since I wasn't that familiar with it and it seems like an awesome firearm. That the Brady campaign targeted it specifically makes it even more desirable to me. Might be time to give myself an early Christmas present.

There is a guy in Oakland, Rob, that runs truehuntersupply.com. He typically has good case pricing also. I think he's a sponsor here, too. He usually doesn't have the ammo listed on his website - but give him a call.
