Glock 19. It's perfectly balanced and shoots very very well.

As for the finish, I'd stick with the default. I had a HK with the two-tone and wasn't fond of it after a while. I'm not a fan of drawing attention to my weapons.

      Depending on budget-Hi point 9mm

i shot about 300 rounds through a Hi point 9 and my glock 17 on Saturday. The Hi point was just as accurate as the glock, both shooting +/- 1 inch groups at 5-15 meters. Both were comfortable, felt solid, and fed reliably. Hi point came with factory adjustable sights, glock sights were factory type.

I loaded both for a string of rapid fire. Went glock-Hi point-glock. Blasted 10 rounds through them as quickly as I could in that order. When all was said and done there wasn't much difference between them at all other than grip angle. I mean I'm dead serious I couldn't find a reason not to like the $200 pistol. It fed everything and shot very well.

I'm not sure that i would use on for home defense (realm of the 12 gauge), but if I was on any sort of budget I wouldn't hesitate to get the hi point.

Hell for the price i payed for my G17 RTF ($500 OTD) I could have bought 2 Hi points and had $100 bucks left over for ammo.

I'm looking for one that's for sure.
If you want a nice 45 XD I know of one for sale...

Hold on...(puts on flame suit)...ok! Go ahead!

I had a two-tone USP 40F, and I thought it was gorgeous. One of my favorite looking stainless slides, for sure. Too bad it was a .40.

OP, re-read AD's post above. Good info.

Maybe it's just me, but when I think of a firearm that I trust my life with, Hi-point doesn't come to mind.

For $550, you could get a very nice Glock 17, 19 or 26. Taurus sells a lot cheaper 9mms but I am not sure about the reliability for I didn't own one.

Dude I have lived by my firearms-and I trust the Hi point more than the crap-tastic Beretta's the Army issues.

I would have said the same thing before I shot it. Its like an AK-kinda ugly but it flat out works!

I'm not a fan of Beretta, but I can't comment on their reliability. As for my Glock, I've used it extensively in the desert, dropping my mags in the sand, loading them up, and using them without cleaning them. Never had one issue with my Glock.

As for the Hi-point, I've never seen any agency use them or issue them.

Why a 9mm? I think the answer to that will determine what pistol you want, regardless......

I own both and they are pretty even in my book on accuracy, balance and fun to shoot.

For me, the trigger is more fun on the Glock. Sorry to sound so simply, but it just is. And my SIG just fit my hand too well and fires smooth.

Sorry if that comes off too "on the fence", but the best I can do.

Thank God someone said it before I could post it. Please do not recommend a non quality firearm to someone doing research.

No to Hi-Point, Sigma or Taurus. DONT go cheap and then regret it later.

any one of the brands that these guys have mentioned to you will serve you well , just don't try and go cheap on something that you will depend on for your and your family safety, and buy what fits in your hand .

I'm not a big fan of the "fits your hand" theory of buying a gun. For me functionality matters most. I want the same trigger pull every single time, a short reset, a relatively light trigger pull and pronounced sights. If I can get that in something that is really comfortable, great. If I can't, well its not a mattress for my bed or couch for my living room...my hand can be a tad uncomfortable while I put two in the chest and one in the head of the bad guy trying to kill me. Personally I find Glocks to be pretty uncomfortable comared to say a Beretta 92FS, but I would prefer a Glock over a it in a fight to the death every single time.

Not trying to be overly critical, just saying that just because it fits your hand like a glove does not make it a good choice for a self-defense firearm. A plinker, sure. Hunting, no problem. Self-defense...not so much. When it comes to self-defense, functionality comes first and foremost.
