Weird nightmare about guns...

These are classic weakness dreams. Same thing for people trying to run from danger, but their legs go weak and can't run. Same thing with trying to pull a trigger but you're not strong enough to pull the trigger. It's a matter of feeling inadequate or having low self esteem or feeling like you have no control over an aspect of every day life (like job, financial or relationship problems). You have to fix the aspect of your life that's the catalyst for these dreams. It's not about going to the range to train more.
These gun failure dreams are typical over at GT.
I am not some head Dr., but here is the common take on these dreams- You are too paranoid, seriously. Stop thinking and worrying about the subject all day because it surfaces in your mind at night when you sleep. If I thought, stressed and worried about snakes all day long, I would dream about snakes at night.
Get some more training and confidence in your skills and equipment. STOP worrying about the subject and you wont have nightmares about it at night. Its that easy.Comment

One more time- You are too paranoid and lacking experience. Stop being worried and scared and the dreams will go away. Most importantly- GET SOME LIVE FIREARMS TRAINING. Movie and internet forums boards do NOT count.
If you are having these dreams, you are not confident in the firearm, simply paranoid about its use, being a victim and your surroundings. I know its a hard reality to wrap your head around, but its the truth.Last edited by tbhracing; 04-06-2010, 9:35 AM.Comment

I am very anal and paranoid about the performance and reliability of my guns. It's just my mentality, I don't know why but I always worry about them failing when I need them. I have knife fight dreams too, just the other night I was wandering the streets of oakland in my sleep with my girlfriend protecting her from the hood rats. Got a guy in the jugular and twisted(with my little 3" folding benchmade). gorey and scarey nightmare I tell ya.Rock out with your glock out!Comment

I know you are not asking this question of me, but I have had similar dreams. One more time- You are too paranoid and lacking experience. Stop being worried and scared and the dreams will go away. Most importantly- GET SOME LIVE FIREARMS TRAINING. Movie and internet forums boards do NOT count.

I am former military. I have been shooting since I could walk. I participate in tactical handgun matches and 3 gun matches. I have also taken frontsights combat handgun course. I would say I have more practice and training than most law enforcement or military.
I don't think lack of training causes these dreams.Comment

Again- If you are having these dreams, then you are too paranoid then. Doesnt matter how much time you have invested in firearms or extensive training.
If I worry about snakes all day long, then I will dream about snakes. If I worry about spiders all day long, then I will dream about spiders. And if I worry about being a victim all day long and firearm failures, I will dream about it.
Its not that hard to figure out, get your head on straight.Comment

I do think about threats a lot, and I have had no dreams of this nature for many years. I also carry concealed every day, but when I first started carrying concealed I had the invincible bad guy dream a few times. I would like to know how many people have this dream when they first start carrying.Again- If you are having these dreams, then you are too paranoid then. Doesnt matter how much time you have invested in firearms or extensive training.

Maybe you have not had a dream of this nature because you are too far removed from firearms. It is hard to be removed from them when one is on your hip all day every day.Comment

Thank you for telling me all about me and my dreams since I did not ask you. Again, that statement alone tells me you are paranoid.
Mr. Tyler- I have not addressed or questioned you at all here. Yet, you jump on me, tell me how I think and defend yourself on many levels. Sorry I got to you so easily and that you are so paranoid.Last edited by tbhracing; 04-06-2010, 10:36 AM.Comment

tbh, most dreams are not nearly as literal as you think. If you have dreams of your teeth falling out, you're not sitting around all day worrying that your teeth will fall out. It has a completely different meaning psychologically speaking (and could be a number of issues). Weakness dreams are an over-exaggeration of worries and anxiety. In most cases it has nothing to do with a fear of running, fear of fist fights, fear of lack of training. It very well COULD be a fear of losing control in a gunfight that a person could be obsessing over, but your grasping on more training to fix the problem is making the assumption that this narrow view is truth. It's not up to you or I or anyone else to say this is my opinion and all others need to get their heads on straight. That's simply not intelligent banter.
Now, if he were dreaming of shooting a burglar at night, turning the lights on and seeing he shot his mother, then I'd agree with you (but again, could be a mamma issue). A sign of muscle weakness, no matter how it's manifested (running, punching, standing, trigger pulling), does not necessarily mean you have a fear of doing those activities. The fact that it manifests itself around a gun, while not coincidence, is more likely the fact that the OP is a gun enthusiast and thus a gun showed up in his dream that he's broke or may lose his job or is being abused by a spouse or his father. He could have easily had a dream that he's in a muscle car and he can't accelerate had he been a muscle car enthusiast. It's similar to a falling dream. Doesn't matter what you're falling from. It's the action itself which is a manifestation of a frustration. Doesn't mean you need to practice walking on a cliff more.
And please calm your aggressive rhetoric down a bit
. Everyone has a different take and it's perfectly okay to disagree with each other.

Relax man, I am not pushing anything or disagreing with anyone, just telling you how it is.
If you are having these dreams on a regular basis, you are lacking confidence in your self, your equipment and paranoid.

Funny, I've had the same kind of dreamI keep on having this nightmare... before I tell it to you guys, I will give you some background. I had a Glock 26 that had a #3.5 connector and everything polished up real nice. The trigger was the best trigger I ever felt on a Glock, that gun was stolen. So I got a new G19 to replace it, I have been busy and haven't had a chance to order any parts for it yet (night sights, #3.5 connector)
So the dream goes like this, I am not strong enough to pull the Glock factory trigger hard enough. The dream has some anxiety to it but nothing really clear, weird huh?
I now have a new dream...The gun I want to buy is paid for and has since been baned in CA...
I dont look to far into it...just worriesComment
