Thats you, what if your wife/girlfriend needed to use that to defend her life?

My primary choice for self/home defense is a 357 revolver with 5" or 6" barrel. The 8 shot 627s are a plus. A 125 grain JHP at 1400 fps is hard to beat. I played around with a 357 Sig, but it's not the same. The wheel gun is the best, only reason I switched to autos is due to the nosey rugrats running around the house.

Wife has a S&W model 640 loaded w/ 38 special, I forget the gr. She's not big into firearms but has learned at my insistence. Naturally, we both hope it's knowledge she'll never have to use.

Good, I trained my girl on one of my Glocks. That way everything stays the same as far as training goes, and I use Rem golden sabres 9mm 147 gr.

She flinched with my 40's and 45's and thats no bueno for me so 9mm it is. Always gotta think you might not be home when that piece needs to go to work.

.357 125g Winchester Silvertip HP. My wife bought a box for me about 10 years ago, and these are what I keep in the gun fo' da' bad guys. Besides, they just look really cool.

Gold dots are superior IMO, hydra shoks tend to plug up when they hit clothing.

12 Gauge pump either Mossberg, Remington or Winchester. I'd like to see the look on a bad guy wielding a handgun with high capacity mags breaking into a house just to be trumped by a home owner with a shotgun.

At self-defense ranges that one would find inside the home (generally less than 8 feet, if they make it into the bedroom or less than 20 feet if they are in the common area of the home) I'm perfectly happy with .38 Spl. It's primarily my wife's bedside gun so I wanted something she could handle and still be effective. The rounds optimized for the short barrels are ideal, less recoil with better velocity and less muzzle flash than a .357 round that's loaded for a longer barrel. In a home defense situation I don't have to worry about penetrating cover and I have no doubts about the .38 Spl. round being effective. I feel that I'd give up more than I gained with the .357.

Didn't go through all the posts, but personally for home defense IMO the Glaser safety slugs are perfect. Won't kill someone unitentionally but whom ever they do hit they have devastating results.

.357 is overkill for home defense IMO. I would go with a .38cal JHP +P

I've always just had .357 mags stored because thats usually what I shoot when I go to the range.. but I realize for home defense, that is over-penetration. I'm looking for some JHPs in either caliber. Any suggestions? II own a Ruger Gp100. Thanks.

I am perfectly fine with Federal .38spl 158gr +P LSWCHP‎ as well as Remington .38spl 158gr +P LSWCHP and have still few boxes of each. If the paper target at the range was a BG what he getting the most is 357 magnums I also like Buffalo Bore .357mag lower recoil 158gr JHP. Feels just about as heavy as good 38spl +P
