Why on earth would an S&W 1911 not be real? The external extractor? That is about the only variance from "standard" I can think of. Damn near every large maker today uses some sort of firing in pin block system - and S&W's functions exactly like Kimber's - it is just better executed.

The only difference even between those two and a series 80 colt is the fact that the plunger is engaged by the grip safety instead of the trigger.

    How is that not real?

I guess a rail, extended safety, lowered ejection port, sights you can actually see, nice grips, and full length guide rods aren't "real" either.

I don't think you a full blown idiot, I think you've just been fed misinformation, and it isn't your fault.

Also, people at the range are more polite because:

    1) Everyone has a loaded gun, and
    2) You probably don't walk up someone and say "wow, I bet you wish you could go back in time and buy a real gun huh you crybaby"

n2k, if you want to drive down to Orange, you can shoot a couple of mags thru my S&W model 108284.

Only has about 500 rounds thru it so far, and problems I've had are 2 FTE's during the first 200 rounds, both were on the last round in the mag. No, it's not for sale.

I like S&W 1911s. They are well thought out and work out of the box. I own a few of them and have generally positive experience with every one in my collection.

              Thanks for the offer.

I have access to some pretty nice 1911's

I'm just going to jump in and start the collection one at a time.

Using your criteria for what qualifies as a "real" 1911, your SA TRP is not a "real" 1911. It has a full length guide rod, front cocking serrations, beavertail safety, mag well, and the Internal Locking System among other things that...

                  1911 Intervention

Be careful. Once you start down the 1911 road, you may come to a point where you'll need an intervention. I crrently own 3 (2 full size Kimbers, and 1 Colt Combat Commander), and over the years I have had another 3. They're great shooters and extremly accurate. Hold out for a quality piece. I have seen railed Kimbers in Private Firearms Sales coming up with some regularity. Good luck!

I figure that the new Ruger 1911 will be out by the time the roster falls late next year...

I'm a big fan of Dan Wesson. They build their pistols with high quality parts from manufactures like Ed Brown. They also don't use any MIM in their pistols. To some that is really important. They have great customer service, and good prices when you consider what you get. They come with match grade barrels, and even though their frame to slide fit is very close to many custom pistols they are very reliable out of the box. I love my bobtail and hope to add a PM7 to my collection someday.

For the record there are only two you can get in CA. The PM7 has a 5" barrel and is excellent for target shooting and HD. The CBOB is 4.25" and great for CCW (If you don't mind toting a heavy, near full size pistol.

Besides Dan Wesson I've heard great things about Springfield, and Colts. Sorry haven't shot/don't know much about S&W 1911s.

Let your gun, therefore, be the constant companion to your walks." -- Thomas Jefferson

Just checking, but if the SA frames are imported don't they have to be marked showing the country of origin the same way Sig frames are marked indicating that the frame was made in Germany?

N prefix SA frames are made at Imbel in Brazil.

Yup, any merchandise that goes/sold in the US has to have a country of origin.
