Anyone think a Glock 17 would be a poor choice or is there something better in the sub $600 range?
Glock 19 instead, you'll both enjoy it more.

Save yourselves an additional 10-day wait and get 2 ... (if you can, of course)

The G17 is a fine choice, but do have a look at the G19's. I'm 6'5" but have mid-size hands and find the medium-frame Glocks (19/23/32) fit me better than the big frame Glocks.

Oh, and my 5'2" wife is nails with my G19, she handles it easily.

Why don't you go someplace where you can rent a few of them and see which ones fit both you and your wife before spending hard earned cash on a pistol that either one of you may not like. You can not fit someones hand on the internet..............Respectfully

G19 may fit your wife better. Definitely one of the most "size efficient" fighting pistols out there.

Old and wary has it right. Go rent a few and see what you both like, your hands may both like something different. I was about to get a G19 since I thought everyone should have one, but I had never handled or shot one. Once I did, I knew right when I picked it up that I would not buy it, just didn't feel right.

              So, try a few out!

So I am a 1911 or Sig fan. I dont like glocks for the simple reason I own a 19 and for some reason everything I shoot with it is pushed left. It is shooter induced error because I dont do this on any other gun and its not the sights because thats been tested. The point I am making is this I am a very unbiased opionion. My wife shoots my G19 and she shoots it well. I have never had any issues with the gun, its has never had a stoppage or malfunction. Excellent piece of hardware and I am sure if I gave it a chance it would be an exceptional shooter. My only dislike is the lack of hammer and the wierd squishy trigger. I just prefer external hammers. In other words yes, good gun go for it.

On my 21st bday I went out and got myself a glock 19. Absolutely love it. Reliable and fun to shoot. Cant go wrong with the 17 or the 19 whichever way you go. Good luck and enjoy!

I own 28 handguns...my glock 17 is the one on my night table and also the one I shoot at meets....

I put a glockworx drop in trigger in it just to make it perfect.

you can't go wrong with a glock 17... ive had a few girls shoot mine with no problems. and the fact is if you start on it your more likely to get used to it faster... theres a reason its the most widely used gun for law enforcement.

Even though Glocks are cheap and reliable, I still can't get over how ugly they are, too boring for me.

As others have said, Glock 17 or 19 depending on what fits both of your hands better. You can try a Springfield Armory XD also, I was split between a Glock and XD as my first pistol and ended up going XD. No regrets, ended up buying a few Glocks later. Grip angle on the XD works better for me also.

i need to control myself with the mods though. at the rate im going, it will be belt fed by next summer LOL
