Caution is one thing. Bashing someone for asking a question that was not in any way illegal, just because we're so afraid of being attacked by the left or LE is out of line. No one offered to sell any machine guns, rpg's grenandes or anything else illegal. If he had the post would have been deleted immediately. Thats why we have moderators here. Certain folks here are so sensitive that we might anger the enemy they bash anything remotely questionable without knowing or asking questions. If you dont like a question. Shut up and dont answer it. Let the mods and admins be the internet police.

All that needs to be shown by our enemies is that we don't proactively respond to questions that might be construed as breaking the law wrt firearms in any fashion, not just NFA rules.
Take a look at these posts, and if you're interested, read the whole thread. Calgunner had difficulty wrt the transfer of a WWII SVT-40. Wrote a letter to DOJ. Look where DOJ ended up going...
From post 95, above:
"As you can see from the print-out copies of this thread they sent me, BOF closely monitors this website. Ironically, I have never mentioned to them I wrote about this case here on Calguns. "
How much evidence would you like?
Calguns is monitored by Ca. DOJ BOF. You can automatically assume that anything you post here is being read by someone that doesn't have our best interest, or the promotion & protection of the Second Amendment at heart. The way some gunshop clerks spout off, you'd think that they invented gunpowder and the repeating rifle, and sat on the Supreme Court as well.

i think you all are a little high strung. but the OP is right people with low posts tend to get blasted more. granted the normal low post member is just a guy dropping in to sell some thing for a quick buck.
A simple no they weren't available before the 2000 ban would be simple enough. A PM explaining why the post was wrong to be worded the way it was would be ok. Closing or deleting of the thread would be my other choice.
People are gonna do what they're gonna do. You're trying to tell me that everyone in this state that has a higher than 10 round mag bought it legally before the 2000 ban? Please. The laughter is making me cry. There is a obvious loop hole in the law and the way it was written. it would be asinine to think that people wouldn't be exploiting that loop hole.Comment

The "loophole" that is so commonly referenced is that it is not prohibited to possess the magazines. That places the burden to prove otherwise on LE and the State, but doesn't make it legal.
Look back at that laughable amount of people who acquired the large capacity magazines post 2000, and show me the ones who came to get them legally (except for those with exemptions).
(remember, saying "oh, well they all found them" doesn't work because that's a misappropriation of found property per the civil code, and still not a legal loophole.)Comment

I guess we all better join the military or the force to avoid such laws. That seems reasonable to me!Comment
-
Reasonableness has rarely been a consideration in laws such as these. On Calguns, we advocate following the law, while trying to have it overruled or overturned by other lawful means.Comment
-
Just because you think a law is stupid, unfair or that there is a "loophole" asking to be exploited, doesn't mean that it is ok to break the law.
The OP's question was highly suspect and Bill just responded by stating the possible implications IF he was intent on committing a crime. I don't understand why people are so touchy about this subject every time it comes up.Comment

The First Amenment applies to governmental retriction of free speech.
Calguns.net is not a governmental entity.
In this venue, discussion of legally questionable activities can have a potential negative effect on firearm owners in general, and our legal efforts specifically. The way some gunshop clerks spout off, you'd think that they invented gunpowder and the repeating rifle, and sat on the Supreme Court as well.

There didn't appear to be anything legally questionable about his question though. He didn't imply he was trying to aquire hi cap mags. The First Amenment applies to governmental retriction of free speech.

Sure Calguns.net is a private entity and not subject to the first amendment. I thought such strong supporters of any amendment would also support the rest of them. If some of you don't want to have free and open discussions, thats just super. I'll go hang out in a dark corner somewhere and hope you don't shoot me for asking a question.Comment

I don't believe in any kind of censorship (unless its pointless flamming). If that's how these boards are run then so be it. I just wanted to say I don't agree.Read my post, #37 in this thread:

What are you talking about dude? I used to go to B&B guns and a few others in my area and they had stacks of AK and M1 and FAL mags. granted that was 10 years or more ago but i bought them cause i had the guns back then. I bought a box of 30 round AK mags for my dad for the low low price of 9$ a mag on sale. They were cheaper here than they were in Vegas. i still have the receipt and the mags I dont have a AK but thats besides the point. Hell I remember walking in to Turners Fountain valley and right where their ammo table is they had guns on racks you could just go pick one out go and pay for it. I'm not saying its right for someone to go buy a 30 round mag and claim it was a pre ban mag. I have mags for guns I dont even own anymore. I still have the mags for a MAS 59-66 that I cut up and threw out cause it was a POS. I kept the mags cause they fit the one my dad had. i gave them to him. I bet there are tons of people who have these 20-30 round mags and they got them legally. if some one who is less than lets say 26-27 years old now came and said yeah I got these pre ban then theire probably lying. Do you really really think people care much about what is and isnt legal? to a certain extent yeah but s*8t people do illegal stuff every day from busting a red light to murder. The "loophole" that is so commonly referenced is that it is not prohibited to possess the magazines. That places the burden to prove otherwise on LE and the State, but doesn't make it legal.
