I completely agree, but what I'm trying to say is that .223 is a better alternative than the 10mm. I am mainly focusing on deer since that seems to be what the majority of people hunt. Obviously, you wouldn't want to (or maybe you would) hunt coyote with a 10mm, but you also might want to use something a little more stout than .223 to hunt pigs.

Why is that so many object to hunting medium-sized game with a .223 yet many advocate hunting with a 10mm handgun? The external ballistics on the .223 are immensely superior to the 10mm. This just seems totally backwards to me. Please, prove me wrong here.
It just comes down to the pistol. If Lone Wolf could make a conversion kit to fire a .223 out of a Glock or a 1911 then that would be obviously superior for game hunting, but as it stands the 10mm is just about the most energy you can achieve out of a semiautomatic pistol (unless you go for some exotic 460 Rowland conversion or a 50 cal Desert Eagle etc). If you want to hunt with a semiautomatic pistol, the 10mm is simply the most practical/available solution. That doesn't mean the 10mm is superior for hunting than the 223, the 10mm is superior than the 223 for HANDGUN hunting...

That makes perfect sense. However, I'm still wondering why so many object to hunting with .223 do to its supposed lack of power, but say nothing when it comes to hunting with a 10mm semi-automatic handgun that provides substantially less power. I see nothing wrong with hunting with a 10mm handgun and think it would a great experience to do so. I guess it just comes to an ignorant and ill-informed firearms community.

Arrrgh. Why did I have to stumble into this thread. I have been trying to convince myself to pickup a Glock in .45 to pair with my Kimber....now that I know that with a few extras it could be a longslide 10mm as well looks like theres no argument against it.

            They also make 6" barrel/slides in .45ACP, .357SIG, .40S&W and 9x25mm for the Glock 20/21.

So, you could have a longslide in 10x25mm, .45ACP, .357SIG, .40S&W and 9x25mm all based off your Glock 21.

Probably because when rifle hunting there are so many more capable choices than the 223, but for semiautomatic handgun hunting choices there aren't many better options than 10mm. Once again it just comes down to finding the most effective round for your chosen platform.

Once again it depends on your intended use. I carry my custom Glock 10mm for woods protection, and for that there is no better round than Doubletap's lead hardcast flatnose:

hard cast keiths swc is by far the best bullet for defense while hunting and to pistol hint with ive seen to many Hp's fail miserably on 10 yd shots on hogs and bear. i shoot a 300 gn hard cast through my 45lc at 1300 fps and it cleans up real easy
