Not quite, it is a listed AW and needed to be registered in 1999. The fact that he is trying to sell it to you shows that he either did not register it, or knows next to nothing about California's so-called "Assault Weapon" laws. A lot of otherwise law abideing people have racked up tens of thousands of dollars in legal fees and serious jail time because of their ignorance of the laws. Be careful.

What he said ^. It had to have been purchased before 12/31/99 and registered before 12/31/2000 in order for it to be legal.

I wouldn't on a public forum that is monitored by the DOJ. Use your head dude. IF you're going to buy something that it sounds like knowingly illegal, don't post it on a public forum. Just buy it and keep it out of state or something. DON'T post it up on here asking us if you should buy an illegal gun or something.

I'm not trying to sound like a jerk and it it was deemed not illegal in any way, I apologize but I read the first post and posted w/o reading the whole thing cause I gotta get to work.

The "legal if owned before" part is absolutely not correct. He must have also specifically registered the thing as an AW. Now, he may have and that's fine for him, he can blast away to his heart's content.

You may want to provide him info on the current laws, better he should find out from you than some other way. If he's legal, that's great and no harm. But that he's trying to sell it to you is (at least to me) a bit of hint he may not be current on his CA laws.

Unless something changed, you cannot sell a registered assault weapon pre ban or not to another party. I can't sell my legal hi-cap mags to anyone else other than as parts kits and they cannot put them together but in 10/30 forms or its a construction of an illegal magazine correct?

The Kimel AP-9 is a more dependable weapon and I don't think they are on the list.

I think that some of the early TEC-9s get an undeserved bad rap compared to the later models. When they do work, they can be fairly accurate 9mm pistols.

How many threads have you read about people getting busted for 100% legal

Now I bet he filled out paperwork, like a background check when he bought it back in the '70s right? So the state says it's OK.

I'm waiting for this one to come up!

I heard that on in Pasadena Turners once!

I don't need you apes jumping all over my back one after the other.

It was a question that was answered.... I don't need all the clowns to pile out of the VW bug in this circus. I got the point.

Would you rather have had your question answered here, or from behind bars? No one made any kind of attack on you 74, people on here look out for each other, and nobody wants to see a fellow member catch a felony. Maybe a thank you instead of an insult is in order?

Wow, everybody trying to show you the ropes as obviously you don't know the laws regarding registered assault wepons aka "RAW"s and now you start tearing into us saying I don't need you apes jumping all over my back one after the other. Jeesh. Everybody here was trying to do you a favor and I don't think anyone here meant it in any malicious type of way. Thank the people looking out for you so you don't end up with some shiny bracelets or walk away man.
