    New Colt Python 6" blued

Can someone help me understand; will colts new 6" blued python be available for sale in Ca? Are stores taking deposits for them? I was perusing riflegears website and it said a single shot exemption was available for it. Is this anything similar to single shot exemptions from 5 yrs ago? Thanks

Colt has been pretty good at getting their new snake guns on the roster, I don't see this as any different.

If you have to be the first kid on the block with one you can go the SAO route. There was no change to this law and has been an option for any 5+ shot dimensionally compliant revolver for years.

        Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

Single Shot exemption no longer exists in California and only applied to Semi-Auto pistols when it did.

You might be thinking of the Single Action Exemption. I think Colt will get it on the approved list and you won't have to worry about it. I'm waiting until they make a 3 inch or 4 inch and get it approved.

Colt has obtained approval for all 5 barrel lengths of the stainless steel Python (2.5, 3, 4.25, 5 and 6 inch) so it is very likely they will also submit the blued models soon, I would expect approval by the end of this year.

Good catch. I just changed my post earlier. Thank you.

Once you get one, might as well make the arrangements for taking care of what Colt had the opportunity to do, but elected not to. Both my stainless 2020 examples (4,3) are now much more shootable than when they came out of the box. I was hoping that by now Colt would have listened and made the blue versions even better, but so far from the example I examined they have not. Still hopeful though. The new lockwork is still a huge bit more durable than my old model from the 1970s.

good info, thanks! No, I dont feel a need to have it ASAP but I dont mid putting a deposit. I am unfamiliar with Single Action Exemption process for a revolver. Are you able to elaborate? Does it make a permanent change or is something less obtrusive like the the exemption was for automatics?

sweet baby Jesus, they finally did it. They will almost certainly be on the roster soon. They have a 4.25" too.

What fixes are you mentioning that Colt needs to do about the new Pythons coming off line? I don?t own any new just the older blued models although I?d love to pick up a snubbie 2.5 . The only negative I have heard about was a weak or fragile rear sight.I did hear that aftermarket support for a bomb proof rear replacement sight was out on the market for that fix. If that?s what your getting at I understand, it?s annoying to spend almost $1,500 on a new made gun and have to upgrade parts almost immediately.

First, you heard correct about the sights. The factory rear sight drifts after using magnum ammunition. The fix is: https://wilsoncombat.com/rear-sight-...ade-black.html

Secondly, while the double-action pull is nice, the single action is nowhere near as good as a typical S&W. Example: on every single example I have examined, if you very carefully watch the hammer when the trigger is pressed for single-action firing, you will see that the hammer actually moves farther BACK before it goes forward. Additionally, the single-action pull feels gritty and is noticeably heavier.

Third, the face of the trigger is serrated, not smooth. You will soon discover how bad this is after any amount of double-action shooting. My callous index finger was actually bleeding after a day of this. The outer edges of the grooves will get you quickly.

Fourth, the cylinder chambers need to be lightly chamfered to make it easy to get ammunition to go in smoothly from speed loaders. Otherwise you end up shaving material from the bullets and cases when performing a rapid reload.

Fifth, the left stock needs to be properly relieved to accommodate the use of speed loaders. It did not need too much, but none of the loaders could properly align the cartridges due to the angle imparted because of the stocks.

Other than all that, they have been very accurate with a variety of loads.
After I had the above taken care of, the two examples we own have been much better.
