My Dad has a S&W 5 shot, .38 special revolver. I don't know the model number, but its about 60 years old. It looks like its about a 3 or a 4 inch barrel. But after you cock that hammer back, the trigger pull is awesome... (in my opinion)Comment

A nice S&W revolver with a trigger job is hard to beat. In single action, I would say better than 1911. The 1911 has a good trigger of course, but I don't like the straight pull back trigger, not natural finger movement. But then again, its the only way to achieve that solid sear engagement.
When I squeeze back my finger it sure doesn't go up in a semi-circle.
How deformed are your fingers?

For me:
S&W 625JM when shot as SA -- not too shabby in DA either (Tuned by Jim Hoag)
Two 1911s (Both tuned by Jim Hoag)
Sig 220R Carry SAO - no tuning. It's a 5 lb. factory pull, but breaks really, really, REALLY super nice.Originally posted by bigbob76I'm in the process of de-humping all my Glocks.Comment

We've talked a lot about centerfire pistols above, but there are some stock .22 rimfire target pistols that have exceptional triggers. I used to own a S&W model 41 that had an excellent trigger, and I now own the Browning Medalist below that may have the best trigger of any of my handguns. It was last manufactured in 1975, feels like about 2.5 pounds and breaks crisply after a very short pull. I think it is better than any 1911 trigger I have felt. Browning even gold plates the trigger on these, as if to emphasize it.

My German Sig 226 has the best trigger of any pistol I've ever shot. Of course it has smoothed out after 15k rounds.
The best trigger is such a subjective thing since some people like SA and some prefer DA. Since I'm a DA/SA guy, the best trigger on a stock gun has to be the sig 2022, 2009 series pistols.Comment

Good posting - I'm on board with these choices and with the exception of the air pistol own or have used them all. I think I go with the High Standard over the 41 on trigger pull.Best centerfire auto pistol, S&W 52. I've shot a lot of custom 45s including Chow's, a few Wilson's including one I own, Gold Cups, and a lot of different match 1911s. The trigger on the 52 smokes them all.
Best revolver, N-frame S&W. I like the ergos of the K-frame, but I can get a better trigger pull that still reliably sets off primers out of the N-frame.
Best 22 pistol that's not an Olympic match pistol, either an original High Standard or a S&W 41. Too many crazy good 22s to include them. Lots of great aftermarket triggers are around now as well.
Best trigger of any pistol I've ever shot was an Olympic recoil-less Diana match air pistol that belongs to my Dad. The trigger was ~2oz and only moved about .005" after the take up.
Trigger pull on the older Smith 745 is not too bad either.
SA trigger pull on the Colts - even the Python, old model Trooper and Officers Model revolver really are 2nd place compared to the Smith. The Colt is smoother even in DA mode, the Smith is crisper.GOA Member & SAF Life MemberComment
