Ideally index is so burned into muscle memory through copious amounts of dry fire that ?flash? sight picture after draw is basically same as aimed fire within 5yd / self defense distance

not sure that the expense of night sights is worth it for that purpose (essentially a crutch needed due to not practicing enough).

Fiber optic front will pick up light from wml or handheld, and a tight competition style blacked out rear sight in my opinion works great. If you can see the flash of color from the fiber over the target, and decision has been made to fire, grip it with capt of crush grip and rip 2

it's beneficial especially at home (for average firearm owner like me) when you have time (depending how close and immediate the threat is) to align the sights due to stuff such as furniture in the way, enough to slowdown a bad guy to have a better aim.

I'd say good riddance. IMHO night sights are absolutely useless. By the time they have any usable illumination you can no longer PID your target and if you deploy white light the tritium can no longer be seen. The only time when night sights work is if you're in a darkened area and your target is in a lighted area. Besides that you're better off with a blacked out rear and a fiber optic front which can be illuminated *** well as the target with a proper hand held flash light technique.

If you decide no more night sights...

The stock old-school Von Stavenhagen sights set is one of the best sights for your SIG.

The Ameriglo Defoor GT-504 and GT-505 (now marketed as "Range Series Sight") are also great for your GLOCK.

If you tinker than turn them into Fiber Optic.

Did this to a front sight after getting the wrong one delivered for my Brigadier 2 times.

My opinions mirror Post 23, but not quite as far as Post 4.

-Although, I think the optics option may work for many brands & models, but the industry is still trying to figure out the various optic cuts, plates, backup sights, reticles, colors, batteries, dot sizes, bulk, window sizes, holsters, $ costs, reliability/durability, and perhaps other stuff I can't think of right now.

-Night sights may be ideal in a twilight to dark environment where a flashlight, whether attached (WML) or handheld, isn't being used for that split second if/when the trigger needs to be pulled.

-For LE and probably Military, not all departments/agencies/branches have OK'd and adapted WMLs, and attached optics are even further behind in adaptation.

Yes, I've got one handgun (a G19Gen5MOS) with a light and an optic attached. While I don't like the bulky size, I will often carry it.

I have several other handguns with night-sights: some without night-sights; and some with night-sights dimming out. I'm generally not replacing the night sights any longer with approximately a dozen handguns. I'd rather carry and maybe attach & carry good lights.

I suppose I recommend folks to include old-school training with a handheld light for the "basics" and later or also include WMLs and optics as budget and availability permits. Even if one's budget already includes a WML, do learn the handheld flashlight techniques just in case.

Oooh that's good to know. I picked up a few sets of these sights for my Sigs when they were on sale. I replaced the dead night sights on 3 of them using these.

What happens to your read dot in the dark when you activate your WML?
How much of the red dot gets picked up if there's even a little bit of ambient light?
I'm not planning on switching anything to a red dot unless I purchase something new that makes it easy to do. Nothing I own now is gtg to throw a red dot onto.

A large percentage of the red dots have an auto mode and a manual mode. Auto dims and brightens according to the amount of ambient light hitting the sensor. Most sensors are placed in front of the RDS and will not brighten when white light is deployed from a hand held flashlight.

Manual mode can be set so it will be usable for most lighting conditions.

It is not bashing in general that interests me- every gun/car/sports forum will have a good percentage of guys who have to jump into the convo to let everyone known that whatever they like is the One and Only Way and everything else is shyt. But I have noticed a couple of night sight threads now where the drones have jumped in, uniformly chanting the *night sights are useless* and *if you cannot see your sights you cannot PID your target* mantra. I just wonder if it is some trainer or *influencer* driving it.

As a somewhat newish gun owner I've wondered the same thing when people say you hit them with your flash light to charge the sights up... What's the point?

                            Also what's the alternative?

And wouldn't a lit up front sight and a blacked out rear sight be hard to see in true low light conditions? How do you align your sights if the rear is hard to see?

Night sights are perfectly suitable for low-light situations.

If it's completely pitch black and you cannot identify your target, why would you shoot?

And for those of us who don't practice as much as the author of Post #16 but who still *practice* their draw and dry fire, night sights' illuminated vials even when older and dim are usually part of *combat sights* on the slide of any decent pistol, and combat-style iron sights are emminently practical for good marksmanship.
                              .

Tritium night sights are self-illuminating. No pre-charging with a flashlight.
