Not sure how you get one through SSE, but the flexibility of the design is SEVERELY hampered by availability of conversion kits, prices, and Sig's relative lack of commitment to its existing customers.



Learn to lower the hammer manually and you can use it in DA/SA mode.

I was able to get a .40s&w FS and a 9mm compact x-caliber kits recently (3 months ago and two weeks ago respectively).

They were OOS on just about everything for over seven months when I was trying to get the TXG xchange kit. They discontinued the subcompact kit in 9mm. Until recently, it was impossible to get any kit for converting to something other than 9mm.

Glad to see they have stuff on their sight now, but they went for over a year when NOTHING was available other than an M17/M18 kit.

I have a CZ SP-01. It needed trigger work right out of the box. I don't think it is the best 9mm on the roster.

What sub-$1k gun doesn't?

Even with the factory trigger, the CZ is a very good gun. With trigger work, it is a superb gun. I can't think of a factory gun in that price range that handles and shoots better out of the box than the SP-01.

I have a M9 Commercial model, and also a SA 1911 Target 9mm. Both I think may still be on the Roster, and both are relatively new. Send me an email for more specifics, and where you may find one. I also have a pile of G19’s for comparison, although the M9 and 1911 I personally believe are much nice weapons.

Don't listen to all these people telling you about some great options. If you really want a 1911 and need to stay under $1K there is an on roster 1911 that will fit that budget. Well kinda.

Buy the Armscor/Rock Island 1911 Gov in .38 Super. After you get the gun and see what type of barrel it has go to their retail website and order the same barrel in 9mm. Not a fan of GI sights? No problem order one of their slides with nicer sights.

The barrel should run you around $75 and the slide $180. All in you should be around $750 plus tax and DROS on the gun. Wanna lower your overall cost? Take your .38 Super barrel and slide and list it up on eBay. You'll probably get back $100-150, bring you down to as low as $600.

my CZ75 P01 has been flawless and DA/SA with decocker.

I have one, too. It's my primary carry piece. It is not a 'full size' pistol, though. It's sort of in the middle between the SP01 and the compact PCR. It's a great shooter though.

Nice, I hadn't thought about that. Well that kinda makes it the P320 for 1911's. If you kept all the parts you have 3 guns for probably less than $1K pre-tax and DROS. And, since you now have the 10MM slide you can easily add the 40S&W to the mix buy just adding the barrel.

How does the 10MM run for you?

I have looked into this gun and the upgrades....thanks for reminding me..

Has anybody seen the SA loaded 1911, 9mm in stores recently? This would be one that I might be able to swing. Maybe I'll look into ordering one.

The Beretta really stands out to me. I'd consider a Hi-power if I could find a nice one under 1k. The prices of those guns are all over the place.

couple of things to consider while narrowing down your choices;

frame - steel, alloy, polymer?
action - DAO, SAO DA/SA?
safety - yes/no, decocker?
size - full size stated in op
sights - fixed, adjustable, target, replaceable, night, 2 dot/3 dot, RMR?
accessories - light, laser, grips?
capacity?
holster?
options, parts, service and repair availability?

sounds like you've already narrowed some of the criteria but there's still a fair bit of differences between the ones you mentioned..

with regards to roster, remember older models 50yo+ are exempt and ppt options, etc.

but since we're all weighing in and you've stated a slight lean towards Beretta - I'll cast my vote for the 92 series..

definitely worth a look, especially with budget in mind..

and besides great performance in their own right - they check a lot of boxes and hold value pretty well..

Sig p226 is also dandy worth considering for same reasons but tend to run a tad north of Beretta prices..

I will admit, my first sig went to the factory for the aep/srt package and my second was a WPD turn-in that was carried by a close friend that also had work done to it, he was a factory certified armorer..

my Berettas are bone stock and haven't had the slightest inclination to do anything to either of them..
