I'd be careful with that one. Look up Theseus' current troubles. To the best of my recollection, he was not arrested, but then charges were brought against him later for allegedly violating a school zone. Again, he WAS NOT arrested, and there is a case.

Just saying to be careful that's all. The school zone issue is the hardest part IMHO, as many areas make it impossible to avoid them while traveling across a city. That's why the BBQ idea is good- you can make sure there are no schools nearby ahead of time, and since no one is moving form one location to another while carrying you're safe. Asinine that you'd even have to take that into account but these are the sad times we live in.

You can keep your "creativity", I'll keep my "apathy" and stay out of legal
/ financial trouble, continuing to enjoy my hobby. Your "creativity" is not
very helpful to the gun fraternity. It paints all gun owners in a very poor
light to the rest of the non gun owning public. Your creativity turns out
      to be very selfish. Pete

I lost count of schools they were building a long time ago. I think there are like 4-5 schools and some more that are being built within a mile radius of my residence

There's more than one reason outside of a political statement. The first is deterence. Without inspecting the firearm, no one really knows whether or not it is loaded and it can be assumed to be a lethal threat. An armed man is a less attractive target for attackers. Most people behave around people armed with guns-the effects of misbehaving are too great for most to ignore.

Yes, you are a noob having 14 posts on Calguns and making the same assumptions that many indoctrinated into the ant-gun media make. With UOC, most people mind their own business and most police encounters are breif. Rambo. That's funny right there.

The legal ramifications of UOC are even more mind boggling as evidenced by this one person,(going thru the legal process) and maybe ending up much worse off then before he decided to UOC.
Is voluntarily disarming yourself when there is no law requiring it, any more intelligent?

Assuming you do not have a license to carry concealed (as is the case with most Californians) and its obvious that you oppose open carry- Do you carry concealed without a license OR do you carry an unloaded weapon in a locked fully enclosed container? Because those are the only remaining options to be armed in California.

If the answer is the former- you are a criminal, violating multiple sections of the penal code. If the answer is the latter- you have less access to your firearm than those who UOC. If the answer is neither- you have voluntarily disarmed or possibly submitted to a series of infringements and surrendered your rights to obtain a license to carry that can be revoked for any reason at all.

If its that stupid, Id like a better, more intelligent, alternative that we can put to use.

Sometimes the law defends plunder and participates in it. Sometimes the law places the whole apparatus of judges, police, prisons and gendarmes at the service of the plunderers, and treats the victim -- when he defends himself -- as a criminal. Bastiat

              Some things that you have to remember about UOC;

If the cops make a mistake and arrest you and the DA makes a mistake and prosecutes you, it's going to cost you $10K-$50K to prove them wrong and even if you win, it's "oh well, too bad" and you are still out that money.

If you make one mistake UOC'ing, it's $10K-$50K and lifetime status as a felon, including the loss of all your guns.

              What's the risk-reward ratio?

Wow, this guy's one question is still open for debate. Although I think there's no point in UOC, I have to commend the ones that do because they are taking the risk for many of us. They may be setting something in motion here, and they are risking alot of things by doing so. But the fact is: they do it. When it actually goes into writing that we can UOC "legally" (since we can do so "already"), we'll probably be thanking them. Not every one can get that CCW, so this may be the next best thing, but until then... I'm still reluctant to. If announced on the news that the state says it's okay, then I'm sure we all would.

...but it sucks they have to always check school zones beforehand, and so far they've only be UOCing in what I would call in my books "non-threatening" places (i.e. Lowe's or the grocery stores and then back home); let's see how it fares in the hoods (Seems to be needed much more in places other than La Jolla or Old Town where some of these people have gone) and such. Like I said, I commend them and we'll probably thank them later when it's widely accepted; I know I will.

You may not have a hobby is our current legislation process keeps going the way it has. I like to try and see both sides of every situation. I agree that every day carrying of an unloaded firearm exposed is not my cup of tea. I won't talk down on it because everyone has their opinion and RIGHT to do so. However, a BBQ or meetup that's family oriented and possibly could be covered by the media would just be awesome. It's a political statement and a show of force (not forcefully) that there are people who take their rights seriously.

Hiding doesn't do any good. If you have the means and the stones then you should do it. It also is beneficial for winning hearts and minds and reaching otherwise isolated and closet gun owners.

Also, any advice on Open Carry? Im still having some situations go through my mind, saying...damn.. I actually might get shot.
Someone said your question was not answered yet. So I'll say a little here.

                      Legally, perhaps.

Second amendment says we have the right to bear arms, not just polish our barrels in the confines of our homes. The fourteenth amendment says no state shall infringe on our rights. So, legally, open carry is protected if you read the constitution the way most of us do.

Smart? Probably not. Being that you're only 18, and carrying a loaded firearm in public, I'd have to lean on the side of inexperience and the cops will eat that up. When you're 18 you think you've seen a lot, and know just about all of the common sense you'll need for life. In the next 5 years you'll probably learn a lot more than you already have.

UOC to gatherings with other members I'd say go for it. Armed OC in this town/county... You're asking for harassment and a few nights in jail.

Next time there's an UOC event we should try and get the media involved and produce some facts for them. Obviously most of the media in LA and OC are Liberals, however they might cover the event and any public awareness is better than none. If people wake up to the fact that we've lost some of our god given rights, we might get somewhere.

dont do it unless you have the time to get detained for a while. Its not a matter of if but when a cop will nab ya and freak out cuz they dont know the law. They might also take a shot at you not knowing the laws and at the very least they will detain you as they check you out. Just carry concealed (with or without permit, meh to each his own) and save yourself the trouble.

I believe he is referring to carrying unloaded. Carrying loaded in any incorporated county is clearly illegal.
