    Smith and Wesson model 629

Don't have much experience with wheel guns. Mostly a semi auto guy. A friend of mine is offering me one. He said it's a
S&W 626 Deluxe 3in barrel 44 mag. Anyone have any experience or thoughts on it. I've been thinking about getting a revolver but always end up getting something else. He said $750 Bnib if that helps.
    Thanks in advance.

Nice revolver and a good price.
Not going to be fun to shoot.
44 Mag. is a blast, but a 3" Bbl. is going to kick pretty good.
Maybe some mild 44 Spl. loads won't be to bad.
For a first revolver, you are getting a hand full.

The only real problem with Smith 44 mags is they can be painful, both on your hands, and your wallet. You're going to want to get into reloading, because that price is almost too hard to pass up.

Life was simpler, and more honest, when revolvers and lever actions were the rule.

I have an 8 3/8" 629 and a 3" 629 "Trail Boss". I enjoy shooting them both, guess I'm not as recoil sensitive as some other posters here. Both having Hogue grips, the 3" has less perceived recoil but more muzzle rise, at least to me, then the longer barrel. Doesn't seem intuitive but there it is. I'm considering MagnaPorting the 3".

OP, I'd do it. That'd be a good price up here in NV, never mind in CA.
I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!

That's a great price. I'd jump on that deal.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to swing by there today and give it a little fondle and then probably buy it.

Buy that fast, before someone else does.

OP, you said you don't have any experience with revolver, much less a 44 magnum. I'll be the oddball here. While the price is indeed nice, the blast from a short barreled 44 magnum is painful. Must be the reason he is offering for that price.

How about you asking him to shoot a cylinder full from that revolver and see if the blast is something you can live with. Then, you can decide if that revolver is something you would want to own.

                    Good luck.

At that price, I would buy it quickly. You can always sell it for more than that or trade it for something else...even a version of the same gun with a longer barrel.

The older I get the more it hurts! But it hurts so good I finally got some rubber grips for it!

I looked the model up and the Deluxe I found in 3” has a lock so it’s not an earlier gun, but still a great price. I have a 4” blued Model 29-2 and it kicks too much to enjoy it. I could shoot my .44 Special hand loads in it but I prefer my 1983 .44 Special Model 24s. My 29-2 might end up for sale here. The grips on it are rosewood Culina targets and recoil is still insane. My Ruger old model Super BH is just fine to shoot.

It's a wild ride, but I wouldn't pass it up - it's actually on my short list!
