    ProMag Magazines

Does anyone have any personal experience with ProMag magazines? They have a huge assortment of capacity and compatible firearms, but I've heard that they're not really reliable outside of a range toy. For real SD, would anyone feel confident in a ProMag magazine?

Lots of people rehash the comments of others about ProMags being junk without ever actually trying the products themselves. So let's set the record straight here. I have used several of these magazines in several different firearms over the years.

        They are junk.

You get what you paid for.....just don't run speed reload drills with them as the sharp edges on the lips could slice your fingers open

Stock or Mec-Gar if available. I was given a couple of ProMags for my Ruger P series pistol many years ago. They worked OK, but had occasional feeding issues where the stock mag had none.

The only Promag magazine that actually worked for me was an 8 round Sig P6 mag. It fed and locked the slide back at last shot, fit well and ejected out of gun when mag release is activated. I took a gamble on another Promag for my S&W 3906. Right out of the package it wouldn’t lock into mag catch without slamming it in or pressing it in with the palm. It does feed well and ejects when mag release activated. I supposed I can use it as my starter mag. It has a steel base plate so trimming must be done to the bottom of gun’s front strap/grip, which I’m not going to do.

Have tried a few. They are all terrible

My friend didn't want to pay the 50 or 60 bucks to get m&p9 mags right now (mostly sold.out everywhere) so he went promag. Would have one to two ftf issues per mag. They are cheap for a reason

Only ProMags I have are 10 round P35 magazines that work great in my FM90.
                    Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

I've had similar bad experiences with M&P and Mini14 mags.

The M&P had sharp feed lips that once smoothed seems out of alignment and would occasionally hang up on the feed ramp. Also would not reliably lock back on last round. The tab on the follower would slip past the slide lock.

The Min14 mags were worse. Some would not even fit into the mag well. Others wouldn't lock in. I had to file the tab down to get them to lock in. Still had issues. Since some, at least fit in, I replaced the followers with Ruger followers and they now seem to work OK. The ones that wouldn't fit got trashed along with the M&P ones.

I also see plenty of folks post theirs work fine for other models. Good for them.

While I can understand to some extent "you get what you pay for", Mecgar mags as aftermarket replacements are about the same price and far superior.

Junk just like ets mags. Stick with OEM or quality aftermarket.

they are last resort* magazines i'm really trying to think when i had one that was reliable enough and i cant think of one ooh i had one for a smith and wesson 5900 it fed flawlessly but if you removed it from the gun with rounds remaining the top one always fell out loose

now dont get me wrong but back in the day there were tonnes of worse magazines like the ramline and eagle and usa magazines compared to those promag looked great

now we got western metal products junkpiles at gunshows (outside of ca)

It sounds like pro-mags are great …… for failure to fire drills.
