I’ve owned a model 85 ultralight for many years bought it new in 2008. It did not start out great, after a few days the trigger froze on me. Called Taurus and their customer service was great, had a pre-paid box sent to me the next day and a repaired working gun back in two weeks. I’ve heard horror stories about Taurus customer service, but the two times I used them was outstanding.
Still was not happy with the trigger, my gun is double action only no exposed hammer and the pull was heavy and gritty. Bought a new hammer and trigger spring from Wolff and had a ton of light strikes. Messed around with different combinations of the stock and Wolf springs and finally found a much better grit less pull. Can’t remember the exact combination that finally worked but know it involved cutting one or two coils off the trigger spring. Gun has been rock solid ever since, but I admit dose not get used much anymore. Last time was a few months ago, used its heavy recoil with carry rounds to show my daughter she did not want a snub nose 38 for a carry gun ha ha.Im a warmonger baby, I got blood in my eyes and I'm looking at you.Comment

OP
Where did you buy the gun for $280?Comment

Surpringly not bad! I'd be interested in comparing it to your Colt Cobra
That's a bummer that you ran into some issues, but good to hear Taurus's CS took care of you. From my knowledge in the past 10 years they have changed upper management and their QC has become much better. I know in 2014 they changed CEOs to a member from Colt Manufacturing and just last year they have a new CEO that came from Walther Arms.
Sportsmans Warehouse. I don't recommend making a purchase there though. Took me 4 hours just to do DROs paper work

I have this gun, well mine is the 856ch all stainless.
Great little revolver, 6 shots trigger out of the box was not terrible. I added this https://gallowayprecision.com/reduce...-856-revolvers
so far no light strikes using federal primes. now its nice and smooth.Saving you from yourself one post at a timeComment

Thanks for the link. The spring kit is fairly priced so may have to try this out.I have this gun, well mine is the 856ch all stainless.

Picked up this exact same model a few months ago. I was considering a s&w 642 but the extra round, lower price and slightly bigger grip pushed me towards the Taurus. I’ve been impressed so far. Stock trigger is a bit heavy, but smooth. I was able to consistently hit a man-size steel plate at around 15 yards with the stock trigger in double action. I ended up putting in a Galloway precision spring kit and it feels much better. Haven’t shot with the spring kit yet, so can’t report on if there’s any light primer strikes, hoping to put some rounds through her this weekend, so i'll report back. Time will tell how it holds up, but for the price and extra capacity compared to the competition, I think it’s a great buy.Last edited by Cali_7; 03-18-2021, 10:02 AM.Comment

I recently purchased one also, pick up on the 22nd. Nice to see a decent review on it, picked it up for $319 @ aeon tac in the city of industry. Went in to complete an ammo transfer and picked this up on impulse, had a great experience with aeon tac as well.Comment

Taurus puts a night sight on their Defender model. Maybe you can get one and put it on yours.I was not aware that this model came with a pinned front sight which is great. I plan to put on a fiber optic front sight to make shooting easier. I did a quick search on google, but was unable to find any front sights specifically made for the Taurus. Can anyone recommend a front sight for this model?

I did the same as OP, bought on a whim from Sportsmans early last year. Trigger isn’t bad at all, I had ordered the Wolff springs but hadn’t bothered to install because I didn’t think it needed it. Doesn’t have the lake Taurus lock on the hammer and the added Hogue grips are nice.Originally posted by ysr_racerPlease don't bring logic and reason into an interwebs discussion
