    Thoughts on glock 29?

Currently in process for my CCW. My Glock 29sf is my 3rd weapon on my application. This will be for woods/camping/hiking carry gun. I think it's a great little gun with surprisingly light recoil for such a small, powerful weapon. I also have a Glock 36 slide to go along with it, making it essentially a Glock 30S.

I should start off by saying that I didn’t intend to exclusively carry a G29. I just thought it’d be interesting to have as another option especially since I plan travel to some heavily wooded states in the upcoming year. I still would rather carry my P99 since I know 9mm will be much easier to consistently shoot. You’re completely right that shot placement is everything. I don’t want to fallback on a high caliber round in order to compensate for poor shooting skills. That’s just a tragedy waiting to happen.

Your post really makes me want to try one out. I’ve heard the gun is very well designed and handles the recoil like a champ. I’d much rather carry one for trips to the woods and for hiking exactly as you described your purposes to be. For urban situations it seems like overkill. Also I just want to branch out and try different guns. I started with a 22, now I have a 9mm, and I think the G29 could be a good entrance into larger caliber concealable handguns.

That said, 10mm isn’t always easy to get even in the best of times and it can be pricey. I’ve never fired a single 10mm round out of my Glock 20 - it’s only been fed 40.

If you are really only going to shoot 40 in reality... is that an argument for just buying a 40?

Anyways, OceanBob to the white courtesy phone, please.

Haha no I definitely wouldn’t be walking the streets with piss hot 10 mil, that’s just asinine. It’s just that the idea of being able to utilize .40 and a variety of 10mm rounds out of one gun really appeals to me. With .40 or lighter 10mm loads it could be a decent urban carry, and with the hot stuff it’d be great for protection against critters in the woods. Like I said, if I could get a P99c in .40 I’d just do that, but the G29 seems like a more feasible option for a CA resident.

Police prove over and over again that they have very little confidence in the stopping power of the 9mm. They seem to always send a large flock of flying lead in a shooting. Where is their confidence in shot placement? In stopping power? A big man can suck up some 9mm and keep going for a little while.

10mm is a bear and man stopper. End of story. Limit the round count for CCW in CA? Then give me more stopping power to get the job done.

I use the Glock 20 as a side arm for camp, ranch and home. I sold my 29, didn’t like the small handle. I carry a 2” 357 mag in my pocket when I want CCW power. I’ll carry my P365 if I think lead count is more important.

I have a G29 and it is a great firearm. I have a gen 4 model that I purchased when SSE 1.0 was an option. My intent was for a bear gun because I had a trip planned to Yellowstone and Glacier. It concealed nicely and when hiking in Yellowstone I even open carried it because that was allowed.

If you plan to shoot hot 10 mm loads from it upgrade the recoil spring. It comes with a factory 17 lb spring. For most Glocks the factory weight is fine. For the 10 mm Glocks it is too light for hot loads. I use a 21 lb stainless steel recoil spring (less expensive than a tungsten spring and it does the job). It softens the recoil a bit and protects the frame from getting a beating.

I use Underwood ammo for my bear loads. It is loaded hot.

I also use the Pearce +0 grip extensions. You want to have a place to get your pinky on the mag. You need all three fingers on the grip to have a firm grip, you will appreciate it.

I also have a dedicated .40 caliber barrel to shoot .40 at the range to save money.

I have carried it with milder 10 mm loads for SD. They are made. You can find SD loads that are balistically close to .45 loads. I also have Freedom week G20 mags and it is nice to carry 15+1 rounds. It is one of my carry guns. It is very versitile. I also carry a G42 when it fits my needs.
Anyone can look around and see the damage to the state and country inflicted by bad politicians.

A vote is clearly much more dangerous than a gun.

Why advocate restrictions on one right (voting) without comparable restrictions on another (self defense) (or, why not say 'Be a U.S. citizen' as the requirement for CCW)?

another +1 on the Pearce grip ext.

If buying factory ammo, I've had real good luck with the LAX Ammo running 1250FPS, it's quite stout. I stick with their new stuff.

                  Try it before you buy.
A G29 with 10mm rounds is a nasty little gun to shoot.
What are you expecting to shoot with a 10mm carry piece?

I found the G29 very snappy, especially with full power loads. Without the Pearce mag extension, the gun was very hard to control (and I'm pretty strong with visible abs).

The only 10mm Glock I would buy is the G20.

Love the 10mm, I would conceal carry a G20 in a feasible situation. I passed on the G29 because I can get 90% of the ballistics performance, easily handled in a smaller package with the G33, put the pierce pinky grip on it load it with 357. sig underwood ammo and you have a weapon that will hurt the bad guys real bad. I would have no reservations defending against a lower 48 black bear with it. The G33 you can shoot 357 sig, .40 cal and 9mm, easily concealed. It is a little snappy in 357 but in a gunfight I doubt the bad guy will complain. A special bonus comes with the G33, if you are a bad guy and that short barrel 357 sig is blasting at your face, the huge explosion will indeed make you reconsider your behavior. Love that explosion, go loud or go home.

Wants are not crazy. Don't be the one laying there wearing a diaper and dribbling and wondering why when you wanted something you could afford you didn't act.

One person's heavy recoiling ugly and hard to shoot gun is someone else's dream. I try to follow this advice, "if you didn't ask someone you didn't know if you should marry your now wife then why ask someone if you should buy a gun?"

Quality guns rarely lose value or so little it doesn't matter much. If you want a 10mm Glock, go get it and enjoy it. If it turns out you don't like it, so what, you know for sure. If there was a 10mm Glock local to me, new or like new I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

With 10 round mag limitations in Kalifornia, a Glock 29SF is a good choice for concealed or open carry in the backcountry. For urban CCW, not so much.

The problem with choosing a Glock 29 over something like the Glock 23 is size. The Glock 29 has a bigger frame and slide than the 23, so it makes it harder to conceal. It also weighs more.

For purely open carry, I prefer the full size Glock 20.

But for what you're considering using it for, it's a good choice.
