In all seriousness, you just don’t see that model often, so if you’re a collector, might be worth it. If you’re an avid shooter, you’d be hard pressed to find something that will stretch your ammo budget farther and with so much class.

To me $850 sounds high, but in all reality, that’s likely a very fair price considering.

So, I just checked on GB and saw a few that recently sold for $750 or less. One pretty nice one for $600.

Let's say that you got lucky and got one for $650 + $25 for shipping. Now add $50 for sales tax you'd be at $725 before you add in your LGS' fees.

So, your LGS charges $75 for the transfer and $60 for the SAO conversion. And, let's not forget the DROS fee is almost $40.

So to get this $650 off roster S&W model 18 from GB you would be at $900.

While $850 looks to be on the high side when you just look at the face value. When you add the almost $50 for PPT you'd be paying the same thing.

If you could get him to go a bit lower, great. But, if you can't you'd still be okay based on what you would pay for one off of GB.

If we weren't in these crazy times, at the condition you described, $850 is a little high. However.....In today's world, a blue prelock 4" K frame S&W that shoots 22 cal are few & far between.

I too think that might be a little high, but then again I paid $750 for a 1948 K22 Masterpiece four years ago and I think a Model 18 is going to be worth at least the same, so maybe not all that far out of line.

I think about it like this; How many of these do you run into? I know that I haven't personally seen one for sale ever and I am constantly on the prowl for pinned and recessed Smiths. Even if it is a couple dollars high, in a few weeks you will never miss the money and you will have a very cool revolver.

I say stop dithering around and just pay the guy his money.

I bought these rosewood Hogues for a nickel Model 19 but prefer them on the 18-3 more. I have a couple old Ruger single sixes but this is the best.

If you really want it, buy it. A year or two from now what you paid will be of no consequence, and you will have a fine gun to enjoy.
