XDMs have district pattern of serrations on the grip while XDs have a smoother pattern like the OD green one above.

That's because they sold their XD's for Glocks.

Long slide and larger caliber sounds really fun

In Glock world, G40 and G41 are the 2 off roster pistols I have my eye on, so the equivalent XD is interesting to me

XDs are severely underrated IMHO, their triggers are amazing back in the time before the PPQ and VP9. Totally blew the average Gen 3/4 triggers away.

I agree XDMs are much better out of the box than Glocks. I have owned both and the Glock 34 has more aftermarket support.

I recently sold my XDM because I was made an offer I couldn't refuse. Do I regret it? No because I have a CZ TS, Sig 220 Target, and Sig 226 x5 all which shoot better than the XDM

Yeah I dunno. I really want to think nice things about XDs but I got an XD Tactical in .40 cal when they came out back around 2010 or so and I know it was very picky on ammo. Glocks on the other hand. They are like starving children of a third world country; they will eat anything...

You cant really compare the XD to the XDM , kinda shares the name but its a different type of performance

If that's a ripoff of the G34, then isn't the G34 a ripoff of long slide 1911's? Sure hammer vs. striker, but the long slide target pistol concept has been around long before the G34.

Not the same thing. The G34 was developed for tactical and practical shooting competitions, where there needs to be a balance between accuracy and speed. The long-slide 1911 is for slow-fire precision competitions.

Off-hand, I can't think of a factory gun with self-defense/military roots but intended specifically for competition that pre-dates the G34. Lots of custom jobs out there, but I think Glock wins the prize for first-to-market on this one.

Not really. They are the same basic concept. I would consider my XDm 45 better than my XD45, but it is far from a paradigm shift.

I also went down the XD45 tactical over to the XDm 5.25 path.

When I was shooting alot of IDPA matches...I did the G34 and G35 thing.
Bought the 9mm XD Tactical, and .45 XD tactical for something different.
During the old days of SSE....I grabbed the .45 XDm 5.25 since it used the same mags as XD45....used the same shooting gear (carriers/holsters/etc.) fed it the same loads I had worked up for IDPA.

It took some time for the aftermarket to catch up, but it's a great platform for a variety of needs.

                              AFWIW to the OP....it wasn't a rip-off of a 34.
It was deigned to compete against glock, and offer an alternative to shooters.

But now a Canik TP9SFX is better IMHO and has similar looks. I like my PPQ, but I bet a Canik would shoot as well.
