Ha! I don't know about "ripoff", but definitely a "response to". Ergos look pretty sweet. Tough to beat the price.

XDMs are much better guns with far better trigger and grip.
I say that and I do have two 34s (and a buch of others) and one xdm.
Another difference is that there is no loud fan boy club for xdm. Which is a good thing.

I shot a regular XD 5" for a long time. I recently upgraded my first-generation XD45 Tactical to an XDm 45 5.25". Great ergonomics, very soft shooter for a .45, and startlingly more accurate.

Ironically, I found mine (unfired) at the Reno gun show. Dealer said he couldn't sell it to me since he was a California FFL. I asked him if it was a personally owned gun, or part of his FFL stock. He said personal (retired LEO), so I was able to do it as a PPT and he didn't charge a California premium. Lucky me.

I was looking at an XDM Elite OSP a few weeks ago. Very nice but the trigger has a very annoying fake reset. Pull the trigger and as you release it you can feel and hear an audible click, but that's not the reset. You have to release it a bit further for the real reset.

Weirdly, it doesn't do it every time. It was $699. I didn't buy it.

I handled one that my friend owns. Not sure is its the same, it was a full size XD made for matches.

It is a great handgun.
