Cannot decide between Glock 17 or 19

I know this is one of the most discussed topics but I want to hear people's input.

I went to my LGS with the intention of trying to buy my first handgun. I specifically want to buy a Glock.

I've narrowed my choices down between the Glock 17 and 19.

I knew going there, that the chances of there being any glocks at all was slim, and I was right, no glocks at all. So they put me on a wait list for both glocks. They had fake blue versions of both guns so I could hold each and see what I like better. I did not hold them for very long, but in the end I couldn't really tell what I liked better.

I don't plan on getting a ccw, this is for hd and range.

I feel contested, like if I get one I'll regret not getting the other, and I'm not trying to buy two pistols lmao.

Thoughts?

How big are your hands? That's what it should boil down to in your case, as a range-use toy.

If your hands are sausage patties with hot links stuck to it like mine, the Glock 17. Glock 19 doesn't fit in my hands comfortably.

Otherwise, if your hands are marshmallows with pencils sticking out of it, then Glock 19 will likely fit in your hands just fine.

I'm sure other people are going to have all sorts of reasonings and opinions, but really, just K.I.S.S. (Keep It Stupidly Simple), they're both plastic guns that go bang reliably and use the same bullet and pretty much the same trigger setup. The fit in your hand should be the practical deciding factor. Don't turn it into rocket science, don't go down the rabbit hole of "what-ifs." There will always be a different gun that might work better for your situation should you choose to carry someday (like a Glock 26).

I prefer the 17 but that’s just me.

A 19.

All the mags that fit a 17 will fit in a 19.
Gives you flexibility if you choose to CCI in the future.

i have a glock 17 but 15 is enough so i vote for glock 19

Not able to get a carry permit I would just go with the Glock 17 and if are lucky enough to live in a county that is carry friendly Glock 19.

I would say a 34 and a WML if its for HD or range.

G34 for the range.

17 has the longer sight radius so you will probably be on target a little better.

I got my 19 for HD and added +0 mag. extensions so I could get a full 3 fingers around the grip.

The Calguns answer to your question is to buy both.

If you grip the gun correctly, both G19 and G17 are fine.

Just get what is available first.

Are theIr any ranges in your area that will let you rent a 17 and a 19? If you only want one it would be better to try before you buy.

Owned a 17 for awhile, like it, shot it a lot. Decided I needed a 19, bought it, took it to the range - twice - sold it. Still own the 17 and still taking it to the range every time.

This. Too often, people feel guns at the shop and use that as the barometer for purchase. Then they shoot the gun and realize they hate it.

Shoot both if you can. They are very similar. If the range allows, shoot two shots (or more) rapidly through each gun to see what the recoil feels like in your hands. One may shoot better and/or track better than the other for you. That will give you the best feedback for your purchase.
