Microstamping not required for revolvers, which is why all the new Colt, Ruger, SW revolvers keep getting added to the roster.

I’ve always found YM to be insufferable, too.

We’ll never have a clear shot of him operating the firearm to satisfy the Colt tin-foil hat wearers, but how do you explain 30minutes of operating a DA revolver in one video, and literally thousands of hours under his belt with DA revolvers, including his ownership (and firing) of an original python in his decades of shooting? It just doesn’t add-up. Sorry.

YM cannot hold Hickok45's jockstrap. Mr. 45 has extensive experience with revolvers, his collection of 1st, 2nd, & 3rd Gen Colt SAAs is nothing to sneeze at. Plus the numerous S&Ws, Ubertis, Colt DAs, etc.

I would not consider YM or H45 as subject matter experts. They both seem like friendly gentlemen that like to shoot guns and collect guns. It is a little ridiculous for this thread to devolve into a discussion about YouTube nonsense.

By the time these Pythons are on the roster they will have refined them quite a bit. Relax, if you are lucky you can get one for Christmas 2020.

My super secret insider corporate espionage operatives lead me to understand Colt has around 15k back orders for Pythons- probably will be 30k after Shotshow orders are tallied.

I wonder what the annual production limit is..... 50k tops?

I called a colt dealer in Temecula, he wasn't taking orders unless you are law enforcement, so may be even longer.

The new Colt Cobra I handled the other day was CHEAP. It was ICKY.

I really wanted to buy a Pony Gun, but I just couldn't do it.

I know we have our opinions on Turners, but the Chino Hills store was taking deposits on Pythons contingent on when they receive them and *if* they became rostered. They had flyers at the gun counter.

I bought the 3" Colt King Cobra recently - i had an original years ago and it's nothing like the newer version IMHO - smaller frame for sure is the first thing i noticed

still, i like the revolver itself, even if it didn't have the CKC name i'd probably still buy one - all that really matters is that it's a good revolver

Main cosmetic thing that I noticed is that it lacks the tasteful fluting on the backstrap. Didn't see the face of the trigger but I suspect that it also lacks matching fluting.
Found a photo of the trigger face and yes, it is fluted.
There are several new Colt Pythons currently on gunbroker, one of which is a 6" with thirty-nine bids now at $3225.00.

Attached is a link to Colt's official explanation regarding their Python problems.

Short version - hand was slipping off the ratchet due to a loose sideplate and a stronger mainspring is required for 100% ignition.

Keeping the sideplate screw socked down tight is fine. But I'm inclined to think that's not all that should be done. Maybe tighten up tolerances inside the sideplate so the hand can't go lateral as much if a screw comes loose. Or a slight "male to female" retaining cut up top similar to Smith.

                        Really, why all the problems.

I mean they already had the proven working design with the 1st one. (python)

How can you screw this up so badly ?

Maybe they just don't care Idk

They can't just make them the way they used to. The originals didn't just make use of hand fitting, they required it. To make a modern revolver cost effective, the handwork has to be eliminated.

Colt has a official video out explaining the problems with the Python, thought they did a pretty good job owning up to it and explaining it. Biggest thing was guns getting out the door with lose side plates leading up to the cylinder not turning problem, made since to me.

As far as Smiths go, Hillary hole aside. My new Smiths are every bit as good as my old ones, actually they are built stronger.

My Kimber K6s was recalled because the side plate would come loose. I never sent it in though because the solution was to apply loctite and I could do that myself. I was told that the loose side plate would result in the gun not firing.

That is the case with most revolvers, side plates keep all the internal parts in thier proper location. Checking that the screws are tight should be part of normal preventative maintenance with a wheelgun.
