Dang, I remember reading that Paco Kelly article back in 05 when I bought my first centerfire rifle -- a Winchester 94 in 45 Colt 🤣

I must say it was a hoot to shoot in full power black powder loads. The bp loads with lighter 200gr projectiles loads even broke the sound barrier!

I've owned a variety of .45 Colts over the years from Colt SAA's to a SW 25-5, to three different Colt New Services and some Italian repros as well as Taurus Thunderbolt pump replica of the Colt Lightning.

It is a great cartridge for a shooter who doesn't reload and wants a big heavy bullet moving at moderate velocities.







My only 3 Colt .45s on hand now.

45 Colt Lever will probably be my next purchase, maybe the Uberti 1873 Short Rifle or the Deluxe Short Rifle.

I had a old RUGER VAQUERO in 45 LC with the 7.5" bbl with Ivory color grips made on the same heavy frame as the Super Blackhawk

this model could be loaded for magnum powered loads, it's a monster

the new models are not built as heavy like my old model

As others have mentioned, it's .45 Colt, but if you must call it 45 Long Colt, everyone understands you mean .45 Colt. It's like calling a pistol magazine a clip.

The main reason I have .45 Colt's is for cowboy shooting and plinking. Factory loads are on the light side (similar to a Special Load). I'd heard it's because it's such an old caliber, the ammunition companies download them to prevent catastrophic failure of vintage firearms, but newer revolvers can easily handle more power.
