It's a perfectly fine and suitable pistol for EDC. Oddly, the market is gearing back to larger sized firearms with higher capacity nearing the G19 size. Slimmer, but still G19 size.

    G48

Seems odd to me. Slim guns are way more comfortable. Especially after you eat. LOL

Love mine and it's my main EDC with mostly pocket carry for CCW. Got wife one and put TLR-6 light/laser for her HD gun. The Shield is pretty much the only small handgun I actually enjoy shooting.

I love mine for a not too small carry gun. They recently announced the 3,000,000th shield had been shipped. Pretty popular.

            Love my shield.
            I shoot it well.

The 9 is quite easy to shoot, and plenty accurate for a ccw. With a little practice, 15 yard upper A zones hits are not too hard.
I've not yet practice/fired a .40, but have heard recoil is considerable more stout. This makes sense. A lot of handguns just need some disciplined practice to master. Seems likely in this case.
The "P" word, practice, makes a real difference. Proper training to know how to practice, also makes a difference.....
There are some people that it's just not worth engaging.

It's a muzzle BRAKE, not a muzzle break. Or is your muzzle tired?

I was surprised how well the Shield handled and shot....pretty much equal with a Walther PPS. Excellent small, single stack guns.

I carried those both, but then settled on a G26 which felt/shot great also and accepted 10+1....and then 12+1 rounds

Correct me if I am wrong, but IIRC modified guns are not allowed for LTC weapons.
I know sights are acceptable, but internals are to remain factory.

Now all I need is to be able to conceal carry it. If I ever could I'd probably replace the sites. I even have a perfect IWB holster that makes it disappear on me under a T shirt.

If I ever am able to conceal carry I'd probably use it as my #1.-- and I do own a P365-- but the Shield disappears on me just as much as the P365.

Rarely hear of people having any issues with their Shields.

It depends entirely on IA. For OC, you are correct. Riverside OTOH are more flexible with internals.

Well that's a problem I would love to have. Living in LA County I'm not getting my carry license any time soon, if ever.

If/when we move, I'll more than happily comply with whatever restrictions are placed on CCW guns in that County.

Until then, it's Sabre Pepper Gel for me. And sometimes a Taser. Gotta love LA County.

As previously noted with the above replies, the Shield 9 is a decent pistol.

From personal experience, my Shield is the only pistol I have that is striker-fired. Personal preference is hammer-fired pistols.
Question is: What are you using the Shield for?
If concealability is not a requirement, then I would recommend upsizing and going for a 9mm that has a slightly larger frame/scale.
Choices are personal preference whether you want hammer fired like Beretta 92 series or striker like Glock, etc...
Overall, the Shield is a decent pistol but a longer barrel and heavier frame would help if combo target and defense is what you're looking for.
                          Just my two cents...

Shield imo is a better gun than the G43.
The shield has proven to be extremely reliable in 9mm and shoots fairly smooth for a small pistol. I sold the G43 last year because it just didn't feel good to shoot, kept the G42 though. For me a full sized gun is a no-go considering 98% of my wardrobe is shorts and t-shirts.

A lot of people prefer the Shield to the 43. Obviously, the 43 is off roster here and therefore more desirable, but a lot of people who have shot both seem to prefer the Shield.

What you mentioned I just heard also. That the 43 likes to twist in your hand while shooting.
