We were looking for gun stores in Pahrump and found one out of town, turned out to be, behind a house. We went in, a woman behind the counter in her 70's. Knew a lot about guns, laws and new laws coming up. She said her husband died a couple of years ago and now she just sells consignment guns. She said if I order guns online, she will do the transfer for 20 dollars. She said she does 15 a week.

Yep. I know who that is too. I tired to get her on my shooting team but she was already on a team on a different night.

          Purchased a new S&W 4" model 15 in 1978 for $106 OTD.

I learned to shoot about 65 years ago when a local gun club in San Diego area staged weekend classes and shoots for kids with adult instructors. 50-foot range with Remington bolt action target rifles and slings, shooting prone, kneeling, standing and sitting and NRA medals for those who did well. We only had to buy ammo--50 cents a box. A few years ago, a Calgunner offered one of those old Remington rifles, a 721, for $250 and I snapped it up. Still fun to shoot with Williams peep sight - and still relatively inexpensive when you can buy bulk ammo for the equivalent of $1.50-$2 a box if you are patient.

As it should be, unless you have the permission of the individual(s) being photographed.

The OP can recall memories from 65 years ago, and the woman shooter in question was "Older" because she was in her 60s? I'm hip.

                      Yeah that's way back. I used to pay .99 when I couldn't get the $10 Fed 550, 575, 525 pack. Mini-Mags were $$$ ($3) hahah.

If you are paying .02 per round of rimfire... and you have speedloaders and the will to shoot 1000+ rounds per day, it isn't hard. You definitely have to love it to be out for 4 hours. We used to do it twice a week or more with MKII's and 10/22's. The price on that 575 pack crept way up over the years (WALMART), till it got expensive to buy two or four of them and some centerfire ammo.

If you learn to shoot today even with 9mm, it is expensive. You buy it at the indoor range and it is insane. .40 a round ? Ouch. Even at .25 a round, you can go over $100 pretty fast.

Shooting is the least expensive hobby I've ever had. Boating and collecting antique pocket knives were far more costly.

I had the same experience a while back. The lady was obviously a bullseye shooter and shot a 22 and a 45 with Match Wadcutters.
