In this very thread, you're reading the personal experiences from MANY Taurus owners who haven't had an issue and love their Taurus revolvers. Yet still, the bad words continue...from people who have never owned them.

I've got a Taurus 66 (7 shot that I love) and two Ruger GP100's.
I can personally recommend all 3.
I don't have any personal experience with the Taurus 65 but if I was you looking for a more economical 357 I'd definitely be giving that a try.

So, has anyone who has actually owned a Taurus 65 had a bad one? If so, what was wrong with it? So far the people in this thread that have owned a Taurus revolver have nothing bad to say.

My neighbor bought a new Taurus .357 5-shot snubbie that had a lockwork problem. If you pulled the trigger (in DA mode) and let back off the trigger (without firing) the cylinder lock would stick in the open position allowing the cylinder to spin freely. You would have to open the cylinder and mess with it to get the lock working again.

The gun was sent in for service and when it came back, it was better but the problem still occurred but only half as often. By the time he sent it back the second time, he had moved to AZ, so that time Taurus sent him a brand new revolver.

Having lost his confidence in the gun, he sold (the one new in the box) at a significant loss. Along with spending his own money to ship it back twice, he took a real beating on it and swears he'll never buy any more low-quality guns just to "save" a few dollars.

That being said, I would buy a Taurus so long as I had a chance to inspect the actual gun I'd be buying before hand. I've seen too many that had defects that were brand new, but as long as you are skilled at evaluating revolvers you would uncover those defects during a thorough inspection.

As noted, some people are quick to defend a junk product (like the current Taurus), not because of decent quality, but because of the cheap price.

Save a couple hundred for a 586/686. They show up used here around 700.
Single action peacemaker clones are cheap and exempt.

Your best value is acquired if you are patient, and you scour the local gun stores and haunt the PPT sales page here at Calguns for a used .357 revolver. If you spot a really good deal, expect it to disappear if you take a couple days to think it over.

With a new revolver sold at a retail store, you might save a couple hundred bucks (or more) by picking a Taurus 65 4 inch DA revolver, or an EMF SA revolver.

In general, new or used, name brand or off brand, I think you get more for your money with a SA revolver compared to a DA revolver.

A Taurus from 32 years ago ain't the Taurus of today. Like everything else, quality has taken a dive; it's just a lower dive with Taurus.

I had the 8-shot .357 Tracker and a .44 Raging Bull. Both were bought and sold on Calguns. I had zero issues & never heard about any problems from the Calgunners that bought them.

Colt has recently reintroduced the King Cobra with brushed stainless finish and 3” barrel. Fixed sights but otherwise nice. Have not seen in stores yet (TN).

In the used market the Six series revolvers made by Ruger are excellent guns....Security Six,Speed Six, Service Six. The snubs(2 3/4" barrels) are awesome

My Glock shoots 9mm, .40 S&W, .357 Sig, and .22 lr...

Niether are as much fun as .38 or .357 out of my Smith and Wesson though.
