well that isn't a apple to apple comparisons to a USPSA match where it is stated in a rule book, and is followed nation-wide / world-wide on unloading procedures for shooters.

USPSA operates on a cold range policy for maximum safety

This is gonna' be long....just saying.

Nanny-switch removal legality aside, thinking you can avoid prosecution by stopping a crime is muddy water, especially when it gets to civil court. So you're not prosecuted for killing the bad guy at 11:15am because he was commiting a greater crime, possibly a violent one. Good for you! You're a hero! Yay! You get a pass on that one! Good job, you! Follow me here... " Now....you left your house at 7am, with your weapon, right? You do that every day? I see. And you stopped the crime at 11:15am that day, right? OK....so, stopping the crime took, what? Three seconds? So from 7:00am to 1157am, on that day, you were walking around with an illegal weapon. And you have done so on how many previous occasions?". See where I'm going? You may beat the manslaughter or whatever other rap, but the firearms rap is gonna' get you.

I'm not done yet....thing two, about magazine disconnects in particular. They're there (did I get that right?) for the average gun owner. Just by virtue of being a member on this site or even following it, you are NOT the average gun owner. You are well above average. The average gun owner, when "clearing" their handguns, will sometimes eject the round, drop the magazine, and declare the gun empty. They did the right steps, just in the wrong order. They just don't understand how the gun mechanically functions, because they haven't done it since the safety check when they bought it years or months ago, and just don't remember it. I read a study years ago, wishing I could dig it up right now, about how many, if not most, negligent discharges with semi-autos were due to just such thing happening.

All that to say, as always, safe shooting and tight groups,

        SD
