I don't buy stuff I can't afford. I hope you can weather the storm with paying for your gun. As to break-in. I'm not quoting from a manufacturer as this is MY method:
1. See if your owner's manual has any specifics.
2. Disassemble the gun, clean, and fully lube.
3. Clean the barrel and lightly lube.
4. Run store bought ammo for at least 50 rounds. I run my reloads but I'm very comfortable that they are in SAAMI Spec for this item.
5. Note any mags that are part of a FTF or FTE. Keep round count and which rounds if any give any problem.
6. Take pictures of any failures just in case you need to return the gun to the manufacturer.
7. Enjoy the heck out of your purchase.
I wish you well and it is unlikely that you will have problems. These are just my thoughts. -

A gun ain't purchased as other commodities. A gun is an investment. You've merely used leverage to increase your position in the firearms market.

The only thing you should ever buy on credit is a HOUSE.
If you need to finance a car, you cannot afford it.
Using credit to finance a fancy Wilson Combat 1911 is so financially irresponsible I cannot even begin to describe how utterly foolish such an action is.
Return it and pay off the credit card and chalk up the restocking fee as payment for a life lesson.

Alright guys. Looks like I messed up. 50% restocking fee so no way to return this. Credit card is damn near maxed out.

Damn near maxed out... so this means your card has a lowish limit and you've unlikely been building credit for long or you have a habit (recent or long running) or spending beyond your means? Either way, the sooner you get on track with your credit, the better off you'll be. Goal should be to never spend money you don't already have. I use my credit card as a means to build credit and earn cash back. But I never swipe it without the cash in the bank to back it up.
If the restocking fee is 50%, I would not go that route. The critical move you need to make now is to stop buying anything that isn't required for survival. Hopefully your card limit is low and this can be remedied soon. Whatever you do, DO NOT make minimum payments AND make sure to pay off as much as you can each billing period. Getting a zero balance on that card should be priority # 1. If the card limit is low and you don't throw any more money away, then a few months of this and you should be free from debt.
If the total debt is high, get rid of cable and any other non-essentials, stop eating out and/or buying starbucks (do this anyways), and consider selling the 1911. If you sell it NIB and don't fire a single round, you can easily and quickly sell it for more than 50% of what you paid, which is all you get for restocking.Last edited by retired; 10-16-2018, 10:50 AM.Comment
