It was a terribly late and tiring day at work, so, I decided to head out to the local indoor range... To FINALLY try out the Desert Eagle in 50AE!
Rental for non-members is $20, and each round is about $5 (Hornady 300GR XTP).
So, seeing/hearing lots of "fails," usually due to the recoil - I loaded it with just one round.
Set the target at 7-yards, and while nervously anticipating the first shot - BANG! It wasn't that bad... I guess the recoil thing was just over-rated and hyped...
Oh well, so, I loaded the remaining 4-rounds and fired at a faster rate. Still managed to get all rounds in the "orange" ("center mass") area of the target. Follow up and recoil is definitely not that bad... Albeit, I got a reprimand from the SO, as this range has a "one round every 2-second rule." Hehehe...
I definitely need to try it again - got 10 more rounds and with my GoPros turned ON (one was with the SO), I set the target at 10-yards. Fired (this time, at a slower rate of fire)! Woot...
Looking at my groups - it definitely wasn't that bad. However, it did identify a deficiency in most probably my stance (I was keyholing up). Definitely need to work on that...
Good thing that I didn't buy the Desert Eagle, when it went on sale my my LGS, before trying it out first at the range. It definitely comes with the FUN factor and WOW factor - but, if I did get it, it will most probably become a safe queen. Well, unless, action shooting organization would create a Big Bore division.
Oh yes - as I've read/heard about - the spent cases that get ejected from the Desert Eagle can get FRUSTRATINGLY annoying (it's straight into your face)!!! Hahaha!!!
