    Fave M&P Shield upgrades

Looking at possibly buying an M&P Shield w/safety to add to my collection.

All you Shield owners, what are your favorite upgrades? I'm mostly looking at extended base plates and aftermarket triggers.

Does anyone make an extended safety lever?

Also, as I start comparison shopping, what would be a fair price to offer for a 9mm Shield w/ safety? I'm not looking to lowball anyone, but I don't want to get ripped off either.

      Umm, moar bullits?

I’m contemplating some of those +1 magazine thingies, but that’s about all I could stomach... it’s not really a range toy enough for those trigger doo-dads. I’d prefer to delete “features” (safety, LCI, magazine disc) rather than add.

If you wanna play dress up, get a G26.

Night sights is all it really needs.

Extended Safety would be anti constructive, it's a subcompact/CCW Gun... I assure you it would rub and shouldn't be extended. That's just me I guess. I also Removed the LCI, I still might remove the safety entirely.

Hyve makes extended mag release and mag extension; and Tyrant designs makes a cnc mag release and mag extension as well. I haven't installed one yet because I'm still deciding if a CCW gun should have extended controls. Hyve is local to San Diego and they include a 30 day return so i'll probably go that route and do some drills to see if the magazine catch rubs at all while ccw or drops a mag while I shoot with my standard two handed grip.

Other upgrades: I did a talon grip, TFX fiber optic night sights, Apex trigger (duty carry). Extended magazine extension for 8rd and 7 rd.

Good luck, it's a great gun but its a sub compact, don't expect it to eat recoil or have 50 yd MOA groupings and you'll be fine

I mean, removing those safety features would be considered an upgrade, wouldn't it? I know for my Ruger, there are aftermarket LCI blocks. Actually, now that I think about it, that's prob one of the first upgrades I make to get that LCI out of my sight picture.

Magguts +2 kit applied to the 7-round magazines, TLR-6, holster from JM Custom.

Growing the safety lever on a pistol the size of the shield just grows your odds of inadvertently engaging it between shots.

Hey, look at that! A useful reply!

I'm with you in that I'm on the fence about an extended safety, but I don't really buy that it will be uncomfortable. I think it really depends how high of sweatguard I order for the holster. I wore a G26 with extended slide lock and mag release for a while and never ran into any function or comfort issues. I can't tell you how many people told me I'd be picking up my mags all over the place, but it never happened. I credit the well-molded Raven Concealment holster for that.

What style of holster are you using? The Talon grips don't rub your skin raw?

Mine is still stock except I added Pearce pinky extensions and a Hogue grip. I like it as is for now until I "learn" the gun a little better.

That is a very, very good point. Appreciate the useful feedback.

I have a hybrid leather/kydex holster for 4 o'clock and a Full kydex for AIWB... Not sure which is better. The leather is more comfortable but gets hot. I'm contemplating a stealthgear for 2 or 4 o'clock. i'm waiting for Black friday ro 4th of july sales. they're pricey. Talon grip doesn't rub at all. I have an M&P 2.0, That would actually be miserable to CCW. The rubber Talon is fine.

I really love my Shield - it is my primary carry pistol. I’ve removed the loaded chamber indicator, and the magazine safety. Added Trijicon HD sights and an Apex trigger. Increased the magazine capacity to 10 rounds (from the 8 round) with a Magguts kit. For what is possible for CA, it is about perfect - reasonable size, thin, and accurate......

For a holster, I found the Alien Gear Shape Shifter to be really useful. It can be converted from IWB to appendix carry, to OWB.....and a few other modes. Very comfortable.

Extended base plates are nice for the range to give more capacity and a full finger grip. I have several of the Taran tactical extensions and they feed great but are extremely difficult to get the mag to seat when fully loaded on a closed chamber. For that reason I only load 9 in the back up mag just in case I decide to reload while not in slide lock. If I had to do it over again I’d just get factory 8 rounders to carry as back ups and call it good.

I have the talon rubberized grip wraps but don’t feel they really add meaningful tackiness but certainly doesn’t hurt any. I really like the sandpaper texture talons on my 1911’s but on the shield it’d chafe my delicate love handles too much (and potentially stick to my shirt).

The slide release is too far back on this small gun for me to use efficiently so I don’t use it. Haven’t thought about extended controls there. Mag release is good as is. Mine doesn’t have the safety so I don’t have anything to offer there.

Only real NEED as I see it are some night sights and a good holster that works for you. All personal preference there.

A trigger upgrade would be nice but I don’t want to do that on my daily carry piece. As long as I maintain proper trigger control it shoots great poa/poi as is. When I get sloppy I shoot low and know that’s on me.

I see you are in San Diego also... Let me know if you want to shoot mine sometime. It might give you an idea of the Apex trigger and tfx sights.
