    Glocks

A lot of people say they love Glocks because of how simple they are, can someone explain this? How is a Glock more simple than other handguns?

Also, I plan to purchase a Gen 4 Glock 19 in a few months when I move to AZ. Anything I should know before I buy? (e.g. I've heard some people mention the term, "Glock finger")

What about Gen 5? I've heard a lot of people say that the Gen 5 isn't a "true Glock."

        - No thumb safety to forget to disengage when drawing (at the time 1911s and Beretta 92 ruled the law enforcement and military world and failure to disengage the safety is common...Glock sought to fix this).
        - Like the 1911 has the same pull weight for every pull. That makes it much easier to master than DA/SA guns and speeds up the time it takes for new shooters to become competent. The Beretta's 92s first heavy DA pull followed by a light SA pull is a hard combination to master. Glock sought to fix this).
        - Unlike the 1911 the trigger safety combined with the medium-light pull weight helps prevent negligent discharges (I said helps...but nothing beats proper training and safety habits). Yet the pull is still significantly lighter than the Beretta's first DA pull. (So again, easier to master.)
        - Comparatively low number of parts that are designed well and in a way to eliminate points of failure.

Basically he took things people liked about the two most common guns used by Law Enforcement and looked for ways to remove their flaws while including their positive attributes in terms of how people performed while using them under stress, all while eliminating mechanical points of failure. Where the argument comes into play is whether or not he succeed, or if those things he considered to be flaws were actually real. I think Glocks are awesome. I also think 1911s are awesome. Which makes me a rare duck. Not a huge fan of Berettas or DA/SA guns...but get why people who like them do.

Ahh okay, this makes a lot of sense. Thank you!

I really like simple designs. While companies can easily screw up simple designs, it does make it easier to get right, and from what I can tell the guns with a good mix of reliability and maintainability tend to be simple guns.

Glocks are just one example. Another design I like is the Walther PP "family" of designs, including the Makarov, which is also considered both reliable and maintainable.

Exact thing can be said for guns with a DA/SA trigger pull.

As far as Glocks being easy to shoot....they are no easier to shoot than a lot of other guns out there. It could be argued that Glocks have one of the worst feeling triggers on the market.

Same can be said of anything.

                        If thread title was "Berettas," then;

Nothing is wrong with the grip angle.
                        Train, practice, shoot.

Yes people complain about the grip angle and the feel of the trigger ..., but

no easier to shoot than anything else you train with, but if you train with it then
easier to shoot than anything you don't train with.

I've seen skilled, practiced, experienced operators do impressive things with virtually every handgun under the sun, and I've seen just the opposite from the unskilled, unpracticed and inexperienced.

It’s far easier to teach a new shooter to be competent and safe with a Glock than with DA/SA and SAO firearms. Same can be said of the AK in the rifle arena. It’s just a simple design that works. Departments and Militaries just don’t get a lot of training time with firearms. That’s just the reality of it. A lot of military service members and LEOs are not gun guys...they just handle guns at work. Some service members don’t even handle guns.

The Glock pistols are just simple and work.

Other firearms are also great but just require a bit more time and efffort to be safe and competent with them. The absolutely most important thing to know is yourself. If you know yourself, you know all you need to pick the right firearm.

Simple = you can 100% disassemble it in like 2 mins with a punch, like literally every part on the gun is taken apart
