Foam has a nasty quality of holding moisture. Those cases are OK for transport but not for storage.

Learned that lesson the hard way!

If you do not mind wear marks then you can ignore this. I still use these same cases, but I wrap my pistols in a soft cloth before putting them in. Keeps the foam from wearing on the finish.
You may be on to something here .....

I think the Plasticote is the only saving grace https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melamine_foam I guess time will tell.

Is it any different from any factory or quality cases like Pelican. Silica Gel Packs perhaps?

I bought several of the cases. I have every intention of using them. I'm not sure I will store my Pistols in them, but I do not think once they are coated, its going to be a problem. I have other firearms in foam cases.... no they are not slipping in and out of slots, but I don't see any finish rubbing off from being removed/replaced and compressed into the foam.

I have a similar case with pick and pluck foam. I like the fact that the foam cushions my pistol and mags.

From the images Ducatiti posted, it looks as if the coating makes the foam rigid. Is that true? Hard to tell from the images.

I bought my case from Big-5 for on sale $29.95, regularly $39.95.

              Thanks,

If you're worried about the foam just put the gun in a sock first. It will keep the finish away from the foam. I store my handguns in rugs and they still have a sock on 'em.

HF had a deal 10$ plus 20% off for these Apache 1800s. Just picked one up and made a 3 tier grab and go set up for my g19. Cost me about 16$ with a can of plastidip. Came out sweet!96648979-3AFA-4E87-8D7C-BD3CFCF60D04.jpg

These are on sale again this week for $9!

Will a G17 fit it will need to cut the foam all the way to the edges?

                      Couple of questions.

                      1) Do you think that these would pass as TSA compliant for air travel?

                      2) Do you think I can get a subcompact 9mm, two magazines and a 50 round box of ammo in the smallest case?

                      Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

                        - Most probably not with the 50 round box.

Check out this video though which will give you a good idea. Note that you can do two layers of storage by moving the bottom pluck-able foam in between the two large foam layers that can be plucked.

While carrying the ammo in the manner shown meets TSA requirements, airlines often have additional requirements.
                              United:
-No more than 11 pounds of ammunition may be carried.
-The ammunition may be packed in the same container as the firearm or in a separate container.
The ammunition must be packed in the manufacturer's original package or securely packed in fiber, wood or metal containers.
-The ammunition inside the container must be protected against shock and secured against movement.
-Loaded ammunition magazines or clips must be removed from the firearm, and must be securely packed in boxes or other packaging specifically designed to carry small amounts of ammunition and must fit over any exposed ends of the magazine or clip.

                              Southwest:
-The ammunition may be placed in the same container as the firearm and must be securely packed in cardboard (fiber), wood, or metal boxes, or other packaging specifically designed to carry small amounts of ammunition.
-When checking ammunition, Customers are limited to 11 pounds gross weight (ammunition plus container) per person.
-Magazines or clips containing ammunition must be securely packaged (placed in another small box or in a secure cutout in the carrying case, in order to protect the primer of the ammunition).
To avoid disputes at the check-in (they’ll win), design your case to hold a “manufacturers’ original package” of ammo.

Yeah, my next trip is on Southwest and I plan on using a plastic ammo box which would meet their requirements. But I will see if I have a manufacturer's box that is about the same and save that one for other trips.
