I used to like G17 a lot. But since I bought a G34, I don't care for my G17's anymore and sold them. I will always keep my G19 even though I don't carry. It will be the second one I grab for SHTF. The first one is my HK P2000

I hate a g23 and always felt the grip was too short. I have a 17 and it shoots well.
Last week I shot a friend’s stock g19 and was quite shocked that not only did it shoot well but I was able to keep my eyes on the sights during recoil and get back on target fast. I’m a huge fan of u notch warren-sevighny sights but the stock Glock sights on that g19 just tracked in my vision perfectly. I couldn’t tell if it was just that I never gave the Glock sights a chance or if indeed the Glock 19 recoils in a way that the 17 (34 and even 26) don’t.

One theory I have is because the grip is short and the grooves force your fingers into position ... the g19 forces you to grip higher up on the gun that the 17/34 frame thus reducing muzzle rise. Maybe the shorter slide recoils back into battery quicker too?

      I don’t have a 19 but I might later
Compare my 23 and 35 to see if there is a similar difference though my 35 was modded to death by previous owner(s).

I have a 19 and 23. Most of my semi auto pistols need to be concealable to be useful. No need for a 17 at the moment. Yeah, I have bigger handguns, but I don't carry those.

This discussion is based on up to Generation 3 Glock frames: The grips on both guns are wide. If you have larger hands then you may not notice a difference. In golf I wear a M-L glove, which is medium hand with long fingers. I prefer the Glock 19 because it fits my hand better. The Glock 17 bells out more at the base of the grip and opens my hand up more, resulting in a looser grip. However, I recently had some custom grip reduction work done on a couple of Gen 3 lowers, a 19 and 35 (same as 17), and the 17 size now fit me better.

I have a 17L slide with Dawson sights, but I use it on a RTF2 frame. The 17L slide was kind of a 9mm target conversion for my old G22C. Lately I prefer the 17/22 sized frame and even prefer the Gen3 RTF2 frame to the gen4 frame.

I wish I could try a Vicker's 19, but that'd be a tough one to track down here.

True about most people basing this on older gens. I am mainly waiting to buy more Glocks once I move out of state and have the option of Gen 5. I would like to buy a cheap 1st Gen if one pops up.

Well ... we're basing it on the gen3s which our Senators decided was the most we could handle. So of course that's all we can comment on.

When I say the 19 grip fits me better, it is primarily because of the placement of the finger grooves. The 17 finger grooves are set wider, and therefore don’t fit my hand as good as the closer finger grooves of the 19. If I get a high grip on the 17, my pinkie ends up riding on top of the bottom finger grooves rather than below it.

That being said, i have a Glock 17 with the finger grooves removed and I still prefer the 19 as the grooves on the 19 fit my fingers perfectly and reallylock my hand into the gun.

I prefer the 17. My fingers feel cramped on the 19. Part of my pinky hangs off the grip on the 19.

Its not that the state thinks gen 3 Glocks are safe, they dont think any gun or even toy squirt gun is safe for citizens to own. But they couldnt outright ban them so they came up with the BS "safety roster" then made the new requirements (micro stamping) so impossible that no new guns would be able to get on the roster. The gen 3 Glocks are only on the roster because they were grandfathered from when they satisfied the older requirements to get on the roster before microstamping among other requirements, was added. But dont go thinking the "safety roster" has anything to do with safety or that CA politicians think its ok for you to own a handgun because its on the roster. CA politicians dont want you to own any guns or ammo at all period. But they cant very well do that all at once. So they do the next best thing. Limit the number of gun designs available using the BS "safety" excuse until they all fall off the roster and no new ones are added.

You're preaching to the choir, brother!

Yeah, I know the "not unsafe" roster was originally an end run around the the fact that they couldn't outright ban cheap "Saturday Night Specials". If you want to ban Big Macs, you can't say that all hamburgers must cost at least $10, you have to say all hamburgers must be organic and contain the following daily vitamins, etc ... thus automatically ruling out the cheaper burgers. Then it was a pile on with microstamping being the last one.

And yeah, it's not a "saftey roster" it's a roster of "Not unsafe" (LOL, they can't even say SAFE!) handguns.

Anyway, my point was that the reason we are all talking about ancient Gen 3 glocks is because that is what our glorious state allows us.

I have much more experience with the Glock 17 (Gen 4, bone stock) and shoot it better than any other handgun, regardless of cost or configuration.

I "like" the Glock 19 better for all the same reasons everyone else does, concealable, light, yet still a full duty type gun. I do not shoot it as well as the 17, but still opt for it most of the time for concealed carry.

I have average sized hands buddy has a glock 19 and I just picked up a glock 17. The 17 feels a lot more comfortable in my hands and I shoot it better. That being said I do want a glock 19 now too haha.
