    First Glock Suggestions

I've owned guns for about 20 years now. I've owned Taurus-Ruger-Charter Arms-Beretta-S&W-HK-Sig-Chiappa-CZ but never a Glock. Never liked the Glocks looks and couldn't get past that even though they are great shooters.

I currently have a MP Shield for sale and a buyer lined up. But before the buyer, I got an offer to trade my MP for a Glock 23 Gen. 3. It got me thinking and web surfing. The more I read/learned, the more the Glock grew on me. Kind of like that average looking girl who looks prettier when you get to know her cool personality (or the inverse of the hot girl looking ugly after she proves to be a bitc....well you get the pic).

Well, the guy changed his mind about the trade but mind is made up and will parlay the proceeds of the MP towards my first Glock. Looking for a .40 range toy. I know .40 is out of fashion and hated on, but I like the caliber and seems like these sit on the marketplace longer which is hopefully conducive to me acquiring it at a $400(-+) price point. Looking for suggestions and trying to avoid any models that blow up . There is a G35 that's been sitting for over a half year that I may consider, but before I do, would love to get recommendations.

Up side of going the 40 route in the 23 or 35 is that you can get a drop in conversion barrel and be shooting 9mm in as quick of time to take the slide off and back on. Ergos are a bit different. I have a glock 30 in 45 ago. Just picked up a shield that I have yet to shoot but the grip angle feels world's better.

In the same boat. Did go out shooting once a LONG time ago with a neighbor who had a Glock. The Glock for some reason felt like it wanted to twist out of my hand and had to adjust my grip after every shot. Granted at that time in my life I really was a revolver only type... .357mag... .44mag only

With a little mellowing and less need to "blow ****tttt up" have also been thinking about a revisit to plastic land. Old School in me keeps the all metal guy talking in my left ear. Finally listened to the other and picked up a shield 9mm. Have to say I do like it a little. Prefer my 1911 or 92fs Vertec but did rent a SP2022 9mm and really did like the grip angle.

Would like to ask along with you if any Glocks have the same "feel" along the line of a SP2022. Will only buy one more Plastic Fantastic Pistol. The pistols are going in line of our cars. Less metal and more plastic. Will stick with the classic cars for fun and the new car for commuting.

Hope this is in line with your question.

For a range toy the 35 is a great choice. About the closest thing to a target gun Glock makes. Drop in a 3.5lb connector and shoot it as much as you want. Clean it every five years or so, customize it with a soldering iron (as is the fashion today) etc., etc.

FIRST OFF I LOVE MY GLOCK 22 .40 CAL!!! Don't listen to haters, 40 is great!! In regards to grip and feel I personally have never had any issue with it. I have shot guns that the grip was smaller so fit a little better in my hand, but that reason would not deter me from a Glock. You can actually get the handle shaved and shaped to fit your hand better or do it yourself. That is the advantage of it being a plastic handle. You can't beat reliability. 10 years, never cleaned it and hundreds of rounds later. ZERO MALFUNCTIONS!! No that I shoot regularly with it and more importantly use it as my carry weapon I clean it regularly more because of what gets on it from carrying it on my body NOT BECAUSE IT NEEDS IT TO FUNCTION.

You can customize them in many ways. I use a 40 to 9mm conversion barrel so I can shoot 9mm ammo which is cheaper then 40 at the range. I can choose to carry it as a 40 or 9mm. I also am a huge fan of Ghost Ring Tactical Sights. I can shoot accurately and get fast target acquisition with these sights no problem.

Also love my Springfield XD 40 which has a extended ported barrel and is customized. You can customize a XD and Glock equally. No personal preference with one over the other. I carry about 50/50 on both. Even considered carrying both at the same time.... Like my glock I have Snake Eyes Ring Tactical Sights, because Ghost Ring doesn't make sights for the XD. A little bigger in size but they work just as well.

Here is my Glock 22 with the stock barrel which I had Cerakote a Tungston Gun Metal color instead of the stock black. My slide and barrel customization was only $255 done by Lone Wolf Distributors.

I love my LE tradein Glock 22 that I found in excellent condition for $350 OTD. That is what i recommend you look for. There are a bunch of good used LE Glocks and they have nightsights too.

I had a Glock 23 for many years and I just didnt like it as much as this 22. I really recommend going with the full size for the .40. You will enjoy shooting it more. The compact in .40 just felt too snappy for me. The fullsize made a big difference.

The Glock 35 is also an excellent gun. I've shot my friend's 35 many times and really enjoyed it. The 35 is definitely an upgrade to the 22 but it might not be worth the extra cash if you find a good deal on a used 22. If the 35 you are looking at is a good deal, you will not regret snatching it up. The 35 is really a fine pistol and easy to shoot.

I do have a Glock 19 which is the same size as the 23 but in 9mm. I think that size is perfect for 9mm. I assume you have shot .40 before and know what its like otherwise id say get a 19 in 9mm.

Glock 19 is the best of breed. Its the mid sized (compact) version of the full size Glock 17. Since we have to contend with a 10 round limit.. the size of the 19 makes much more sense over the original Glock17 unless you have big paws. The Glock 17 was designed around the 9mm cartridge and the reliability of the Glock 17/19 is THE reason to own one.

If you want to just "own" one, leave it box stock. If you want to shoot it / carry it, I am a minimalist when it comes to modifications; better metal night sights (stock sights are plastic) and a stock 3.5 lb glock trigger. Dont do anything else and you will have a gun that reliably and accurately goes bang every time you ask it to.

Could you tell more about the Birdshead grip? I have had a standard grip vaquero and plan to buy a Birdshead one later. Haven't got a chance to try one, so would like to know if there is anything wrong with it.

My first Glock was a gen3 21sf. It's been ok but for a weird mag issue I can't figure out. My 2nd Glock was a gen4 32 which hasn't had any issues so far.

My first Glock was a G22. I love it; I'm accurate with it, feels good in my hands, and now that I'm in a free state I can keep it accessible in my truck as an anti car jacking device. I like the .40 caliber, too.
After that, I got a G23 and then a G27. They're both awesome guns, especially since I can CC now.
I've found that the Glock .45s are slightly too big for my hands. The XDs and M&Ps, and even the FNX .45 feels better.
A good option would be to go with a .40 and get a drop in 9mm conversion if you want to use a different caliber later. It's cheaper than getting another gun.

Good to know. The downside of the .40 is it is more $$$ than a 9 mm to shoot.
