SpringField XD9 5" +1, underrated gun. Glock is overrated.

If you check out a CZ 75 / SP-01 and think it feels like a boat anchor, you could look at something alloy framed like a CZ 75D Compact PCR... I have one of those and a CZ40B that are alloy framed and they are light.

My first was a G17 but since you're looking at Beretta, check out the px4 storm. It's really, really nice and its also on sale at turners for like $400. I will never buy a CZ after looking at the 75D model. The slide was very, very difficult to work with and the decocker puts it in half-cock mode for some reason. To uncock it completely, you need to pull the trigger. Completely senseless, never considered them again.

If you keep coming to Calguns to ask questions, you will buy all three sooner or later, so whichever you buy first isn't matter.

You should buy this OP. Great and safe gun for your first. Not to mention an excellent price.

Dang thats a good deal for a Sig without the CA handicaps. Very nice, I'd jump on that if I didnt already have 2 German Sigs. That one has the nitride slide instead of the carbon slide, but that doesnt really matter as far as functionality.

I don't think I have ever shot a Beretta with a "terrible" trigger.

The CZ is a bit gritty, and the Glock is a plastic, striker fired pistol - which is lame, but far from mediocre.

The Beretta, as a standard, has a great trigger feel.

I have 2 Beretta 92s. Neither had a "terrible" trigger, just heavy. HOWEVER, it is super easy and super cheap to improve it. Just buy a Wilson Combat reduced power hammer spring ($7 IIRC) and install it yourself. Instantly improves the trigger from good to great. Beretta triggers are already very crisp out of the box. They come with an overly strong hammer spring as an added safety measure.

Unlike CZ triggers which are absolutely atrocious, grittiest, nastiest triggers out there. When I first bought a CZ, I thought, cool it has a two stage trigger like a rifle. That was before I realized you dont want that in a pistol. Haha.

Berettas are also super easy to work on yourself. I dont know about how hard it is to work on CZs but I hear everyone sending theirs out to CGW to get $300+ worth of "tuning" to make them shootable.

You guys are all funny. "I hate this!", "I love that", "That sucks!", "This is the best!", etc.

OP, the best one is the one that fits you not someone else. Go to a gun store or range that rents and handle them. They all feel different in hand.

Don't be afraid of buying your first one. It won't be your last. And there's nothing wrong with a Glock, Cz, or Beretta.

You mentioned interest in 3 gun. You might try checking out events and talking to people who participate to get a better insight as to what they expect out of a pistol, rifle, or shotgun.

We can play theory all day long, but IMO the most important part is that the pistol needs to fit.

The general rule of thumb to a first time shooter is to buy the biggest/heaviest gun you can shoot (in 9mm). The problem of course occurs is when the gun is too big or too heavy to shoot accurately.

I personally know of a few examples where pistols where purchased based on theory, and while the buyer may have handled and dry-fired it a few times before signing, in the end was too big to shoot in DA.

Example, P226 or 92FS. If you have a short index finger, you may not want either of these regardless of how "good" the trigger may be.

Do you understand the differences in the platforms between a SA/DA gun and a polymer striker fired gun? Because this should be your first step. Right now it's more about locking in on a platform than trying to find the specific gun.

Accordingly, you should go to the range and rent one or two guns in each platform. Once you decide which platform you want, then go back to the range and rent as many in that platform as you can. We can help point you to some to try once you decide the platform.

                                Examples:

                                SA/DA Guns
                                CZ75
                                Beretta 92
                                Sig P226

                                Polymer Striker Guns
                                Glock 17/19
                                M&P
                                Springfield XD

Stick with mid to full size guns. No sub compacts like the Shield or similar. Something with either a 4 inch or 5 inch barrel and a full grip.

Not only will you sort out more in a range session than anything we can tell you here...but it will be fun.

                                Welcome to the forum!
