Let me reemphasize that the issue is hand size, not hand strength. I take my .357 Magnum LCR to the range all the time, and firing it is not a problem for me. If I can handle that, then 9mm recoil should be fine.

How about the part where I own a Shield, CW9 and a BHP and can tell you from holding all three that the BHP is not appreciably bigger.
No conjecture, no guessing, holding each one in my dainty little hands.
Fort a bit more unbiased answer I grabbed my Wife's cloth measuring tape and measured the grips:
Shield = 5.25"
CW9 = 5.5"
BHP = 5.5"
1911 = 5.5"NRA Benefactor Life Member / CRPA Life Member / SAF Life Member

I own 3 single stack 9s.. purchased for the same reasons.... all shoot well
1. Shield, little gun shoots like a big gun and conceals easily.
2. Springfield Armory XD-9 Service. Duty weapon. Very accurate.
3. Springfield Armory 1911 Loaded Target. Sweet shooter.

While not what you asked, Sig has the E2 grip option now for small and medium hands. The M11-A1 and P229 can use it. I held one the other day and it does make the double stack handgun feel narrower. Instead of using screws to hold the grip in place, it acts like a one piece clip, allowing it to be thinner. I’m thinking of putting an E2 grip on mine.
One older, discontinued gun worth mentioning is the S&W 3913. It is an all metal 9mm with an 8 round mag. I’ve owned one since the mid 90’s. I really like how the 3913 fits my hand. Keep it in mind, and grab one if you come across one.Comment

I have small hands as well but there are a few double stack guns I can use comfortably, CZs with think grips, Beretta Vertec and the Browning Hi Power. When it comes to single stacks you can't beat a 1911 in 9mm.Comment

So why haven't you bought a Glock 43 yet?

Have a hard look at and try and rent a Sig p239. It's on roster, doesn't have any Ca fukery on it, and is a really nice single stack 9.
