+1. Short trigger, low safety and thin grips = heaven.

But if I wanted a single-stack 9mm, what would be my on-roster options? I know the Glock 43 is out of the running. What about the Ruger LC9? Some Google-fu just confuses me - like it was on, then off, then on again - so what's the story on that? There seems to be a CA-compliant version of the M&P Shield; is that a decent option? What others are out there that are any good? Thanks, everyone.
I didn't read all 4 pages of this thread, but don't rule out all double stacked guns. I know it's off roster, but consider the new Sig P365. I think it's just what you're looking for.

Where there's a will there's a way. Do you have any LEO friends or parents out of state?

Sig 239. They were discontinued this year, but are still on roster. I bought now for my wife and she loves it.

I like Nills, the hogue is nice but Walnut drives me crazy, be it a big but like the one on the 9mm or small but like the onr on the RR8.
