Or, second, my brother has read some recent articles and reviews (which he turned me on to) that indicate that over the past couple few years the luster of the .40 S&W is wearing off. Various reasons are put forth, but the facts seem to show that sales of the caliber have gotten soft. Maybe Sig is thinking about dropping the .40 version or curtailing its production.

This is just speculation, but I really don't think they're dropping the 2022 completely, at least for next 5 years or so. FWIW

When Sig phased out the P228 from the civilian market, they were still producing the P228 M11 variant for US DOD for a number of years after. The P229 9mm had taken over the role for the civilian market at that point.

Sig produced the SP series for the first set of military trials. It was meant as a lightweight, polymer pistol with interchangeable backstraps for different hand sizes.

Based on Sig's history, I predict that they will phase the SP series out of the civilian market, but continue to produce for their contracts. The P320 has already replaced the SP for its military trial contender and won so focus will be routed to P320 production (and "voluntary upgrade").

Sig could care less about CA and I doubt the would bother to keep it here. So many Sigs have already fallen off-roster that are still available elsewhere.

The SigPro is nowhere near dead. As a matter of fact Sig and grayguns are at this moment working on a revamped (think Legion like) 2022. 9mm will be the first released followed by the .40.

GGI doesn't even carry products for the SP series and I don't see that anywhere on their site.

Perhaps you read it via social media?

Well, if you're correct, then I "chose wisely" and will have a lovely off roster Sig with no LCI or mag disconnect . . . oh well.

Turner's has them on sale starting Saturday(?) For $80 off their listed price of $530 which makes it $450 for ya. It only comes with one mag but read below.

Add the incentive they're running now and if you purchase it before Oct 15th you get two mags and a cloth pistol bag free.

I've read that Gray himself has an SP that he carries and has modified with an apparent fondness for them.

The thing most folks are not fond of is the lack of an SRT option, but he had come up with a solution for it. I think you have to call for that, though I am not sure if its publicly marketed.

I like mind just fine, but I do not have as much faith in it running the .40 barrel as I had a real problem with failure to feed. No such issues with its 357 Sig barrel. Turns out it was an early design barrel and after Sig finally did a courtesy barrel swap after it's third time going back for FTF. It's newer design barrel with a re-contoured barrel (ramp and shoulder) has been reliable without any FTF so far, but when its home in the nightstand its wearing its 357 barrel.

In either case, it does not cycle as smoothly as my classics IMO. I would love it if it had the SRT like my 229 and 227 as I am use to their feel on follow-up shots.

an SRT package for the 2022 is on the way...

And Grayguns does tons of stuff for the SigPro series. Bruce carries a 2022 in .357 when he is doing the police thing and I used to work with a guy that had a 2340 that was worked over by Bruce. It was amazing.
