Anyone know of a place in socal with a great shield deal? Closer to LA area? Online sales disappear when factoring in ffl fees for shipping it in.WTB 3rd Gen SW also looking for a 22 pistol with 6" bbl or longerComment

The one I bought last week had a build date of 4/05/2017. It looks as if the factory is producing them at full capacity.Last edited by Danodog; 05-17-2017, 10:17 AM.Calguns Contributor

Cuba is the best place to see classic cars.I don't know about S&W marketing practices, but other companies tend to display future models during large gun shows like SHOT, NRA Convention, etc. long before the old models are clearanced, so I bet these are just production overruns gearing up for a new anti-gun she president in suit pants.
With that said, I agree with ElvnSoul that soon, if handguns were cars, the CA landscape would look like this:
See those Fiat-looking Ladas in the pictures? Those are the few Off Roster cars!

you forgot the rest of the sentence...
Cuba is the best place to see classic cars cobbled together with home-made replacement parts and painted in sheds with industrial paints.
the embargo, mixed with a dictator makes the cars there very unique... most of the remaining pre-'59 american cars there are running on tiny chinese diesel engines... it hurts my heart...Comment

If I lived in California with no immediate plans to move and I liked the Shield and one day wanted to add one to my collection, I would be jumping on the VERY good deals right now. We've never seen prices this low before.
There's also 40 Million people in Ca, although they're not all gun owners. However, the CA gun market is huge and it would surprise me greatly if M&P discontinued the CA guns (Shields included). Glock doesn't have any problem maintaining their CA versions.
But with that said, I obviously don't work at S&W and have no idea what their future plans are for their CA models. With the prices as low as they are, and there is a chance that they could stop production, why would you wait?"Kestryll I wanna lick your doughnut."

Good grief, now that you put it that way...Gen3 glocks, for example, were introduced 19 years ago. We have forum members here who weren't even born yet. Titanic was the most popular movie at the time, and we learned of the Monica Lewinsky affair that year. Windows 98 was the hot new PC operating system. Gen3 Glocks are older than Jaden Smith. "Hit Me Baby One More Time" was gracing all of our radio stations as we drove to pick up our new Gen3's with *gasp* full-capacity magazines which weren't illegal for 2 more years, which was good because we needed the extra ammo in preparation for the Y2K bug. Might as well grab a semi-auto .50BMG rifle with a pistol grip too, since you're already at the store. Unfortunately I couldn't partake, as I wasn't old enough to drive quite yet so I mostly spent my time playing that new Starcraft game on my sweet Gateway2000 desktop.
Even Gen4 came out 7 years ago. Gen5 could make an appearance any time now. Seriously, gen4 could fade into history before it ever even had a chance to be sold in CA stores.
It would surprise nobody if at some point Glock pulled the plug on gen3 in the near future. Same goes for every other manufacturer of modern handguns.

Just do it
No need to worry about them going off the roster or being discontinued. Just buy a Shield because they are excellent guns. If you don't have one, you will love it if you buy one.
For Cockedandglocked, The gun stores here in Arizona still carry Gen 3 Glocks right along side the Gen 4 models even though there is no hand gun roster here. So it is not just California that offers a market for the Gen 3 models. Many people prefer them. I would guess that the rest of the country is the same as Arizona.Comment
