Had a PM9, nothing but issues. Kahr sent me another. Same issues. Finally they gave me an MK9 which was more reliable but now that I own the Shield (with apex trigger), I won't go back to Kahr.

For the money and reliability aspect, the Shield is the better choice. For the Kahr fanboi's, this was my LE backup, each was properly broke in at 800rds each and even my Kahr engineer said they had some flaws (yes, he said flaws). I do know they have changed some aspects of the slide (was prone to peening) since 2006 so they may be better now.

There is no denying that the Shield is less expensive and has a better track record of reliability. There is also no denying that the Shield is a little too large for a BUG.

My PM9 was good to go from day one, but even at that I looked for a replacement for it as the long reset has always bothered me. Trouble was finding a replacement small enough in 9mm that I liked better. I tried the Shield, I like it(still have it)but it was just too large to replace the Kahr as my BUG.

I am not a Kahr fan and only own the one. But the one I have is a darn good one and you can't beat the size for a 9mm BUG. But I finally did find a replacement for it with the Glock 43. But I still keep the Kahr for those few times I need something a hair smaller then the 43.

I think the CW9 is more comparable... but Kahr, for some reason doesn't get the respect it should. I love my CW9 Covert. Don't own a shield as I haven't felt the need. A nice polishing job for the Kahr, and they're little shooters

My daughter has both a Shield 9mm and a CW9. They are very similarly sized, but after the normal malfunctions experienced during break-in with the CW9, she didn't trust it and qualified with/carried the 100% reliable Shield...

Interesting... I've never had one issue with my Kahr. My brother in-law had 3 hang ups with his shield during qualifying for CCW. But that could be his gay limp wrists!

Had both.. pm9 has a long smooth trigger like my Beretta nano.. shield feels better than both.. My main carry now is the xds 9mm. Good trigger and i can hit out to about 50yrds with a little concentration.

You're going to get mixed opinions for sure op, go wrap your mitts around each. LGS has a pm40 for IIRC 450-500 here in all black that I'm tempted to buy

Wife can blow the center out of a target at 15 yrds with her PM-9. I'd live to see someone do that with a Shield.

Course it might be the shooter.

I have both the PM9 and Shield. Both reliable and excellent. It is tough right now to pass up the Shield, especially with the rebate. Getting that gun for around $300 is almost a steal. I carry the PM9, and my wife has been carrying a Kahr K9 since 1997 and has had no issues. I really like the Kahr trigger. The Kahr trigger is light and smooth, and very easy to shoot accurately. I have no problems with the Shield trigger; just no quite as good as the Kahr. I also prefer the Kahr since it does not have a loaded chamber indicator, manual safety or magazine disconnect. The Kahr feels like a higher quality piece and is more refined, but these things do not affect the actual function or reliability. The PM9 is also easier to conceal due to its smaller size.

The reason I no longer carry the Shield is due to the 3 gun limit on my permit. PM9 for ultra-concealment, HK P2000sk for regular carry, and Glock 29sf for the elephants. If I could carry a 4th, the Shield would be on there.

I've shot the Shield at the range and didn't like it. Too snappy.

I own the PM9. It's a soft shooter and is reliable. Much more enjoyable to shoot than the Shield.

I don't own either gun mentioned. I do own a Kahr K40 and Kahr MK9. They both have had a few break in issues (mainly magazine related, and I have used only my reloads to shoot). They are both totally reliable guns now though. They have super smooth triggers and point naturally at anything I want to hit. It took over 200 rounds before they became totally reliable.

I have had my eye on buying a PM9 in all black for many years. The price is steep, but so are off-roster guns like the G43, which are around the same price or more. (Here on Calguns, where Californians are "helping" each other to achieve gun ownership to fight the opposing Democratic tyranny).

I have considered a Shield 9mm many times. The decision to buy one gets shot down each time due to the warning labels engraved on the gun. I will never own a California version. But even the off roster model has the ugly messsage engraved to tell the idiot firing it that it will fire with the magazine removed. I don't need that warning on the slide, because if I'm using the gun, I am not reading the side of the slide. I also don't want to "have to" buy an APEX trigger kit to make the gun feel nice.

I would go with the PM 9 any day. It is a small concealable gun. It will fit in a pocket easily where the shield won't. Kahr has excellent customer service from what I have experienced. They send parts for free with no questions asked. Can't ask for more. Kahrs are high quality guns, they experience a bad rap from certain internet horror stories which may or may not be true. All it takes is one or two bad stories spread all over the internet to make people have doubt.

The only reason I hesitate to get a PM9 is because I spent good money on an all-steel MK9 of the same size which I really like aesthetically. The only downside for pocket carry for the steel models is the weight. Other than that, the PM9 seems like the best gun available for the size and features it offers.
