I had one and got rid of it. Didn't like he trigger. I would try and shoot someone else's before I bought one.

Mainly price. KAHR does have a long trigger which takes some getting used to but is a great shooter. Especially for someone with small hands like my wife. She Rocks the PM-9

OTOH my sister has big hands and a small budget so the shield was her answer.

I have both. I had the PM9 first, good smooth trigger and fits almost any outfit. Once I got my shield it made the PM9 obsolete. I love the shields trigger and it is almost as versatile when it comes to carry. And it holds 8+1 with the flush mag (magguts kit)

Maybe because it's 3X the price?

I carried a kahr cm9 a few years back for awhile I loved it. Takes getting used to but craftsmanship is very nice especially on the pm models. Picking up my p380 today at 4. In all honesty, if you don't mind the safeties on the shield and money is important on the deal, what will that extra couple hundred dollars get you that the shield won't?

I think the CW9 is more comparable... but Kahr, for some reason doesn't get the respect it should. I love my CW9 Covert. Don't own a shield as I haven't felt the need. A nice polishing job for the Kahr, and they're little shooters

                Opted for the Sig P938.

Also a little pricey, but very nice.

I've had my pm9 for at least 5 years, and i'll probably never get rid of it. Its somewhat pocketable (although borderline), and disappears IWB. If you want the smallest 9mm that is on roster, the pm9 is hard to beat.

Now if you are not limited to the roster, then there are other options that are just as small.

A shield is not as small as a pm9

I think the Shield is more popular because of the price. IMHO the PM9 is twice the gun, but also twice the price...

I HATE the stupid little trigger safety that the M&P series have. The Kahr has 0 safeties on it, unless you count the longer trigger pull as a safety.

I have both the CW9 and a CM9, neither has ever had a failure.

You can find a used PM9 on Calguns for around 500-550 with due diligence. Yes, a couple hundred more than a Shield with the rebate, but the PM9 is very pocketable. Many folks are leery of Kahr's somewhat checkered reliability history, but proper break in and lubing usually takes care of these 9mms. Throw it in a pocket with either a Sticky holster or a Desantis Nemesis/Superfly and you're good to go. Don't forget a spare mag given the lower capacity.

The PM9 is much smaller and lighter then the Shield. I've owned a PM9 since 2008, mine has proved very reliable from day one and incredible accurate for such a small sub-compact.

Here is a pic of the two next to each other.

My PM9 is reliable. My Shield was reliable as well. I gave the Shield away because I didn't need two subcompact single stacks and I was not a fan of the shield's trigger.

I have a PM9 and my wife has a shield.

Neither has ever had a malfunction, although they both probably have around 1k rounds, so not heavy use.

They are quite different. You really need to try both if you if you are going to choose. The PM9 is much smaller in a practical way. I bought my PM9 back when I had hope of getting a CCW. It potentially fits in a pocket, whereas I don't see the shield doing that for normal pockets.

They shoot way different. The PM9 is harder to shoot well, due to its size. Much more felt recoil and harder to shoot quickly. The shield shoots much like a normal size gun; like a glock with a crappy trigger. I don't care for the narrow but deep grip. It messes up my hold and makes me change my trigger finger position compared to all my pistols.

From a value per dollar perspective the shield is one of the best pistol buys there is (at least in calfornia).

                            Good luck.

Had a PM9, nothing but issues. Kahr sent me another. Same issues. Finally they gave me an MK9 which was more reliable but now that I own the Shield (with apex trigger), I won't go back to Kahr.

For the money and reliability aspect, the Shield is the better choice. For the Kahr fanboi's, this was my LE backup, each was properly broke in at 800rds each and even my Kahr engineer said they had some flaws (yes, he said flaws). I do know they have changed some aspects of the slide (was prone to peening) since 2006 so they may be better now.
