Shield M&P9 sucks?

Is it a $1,000 gun? No. Cabelas has them for $299 after rebate. It is as good as a $1,000 gun was 10 years ago thanks to manufacturing technology.

The Shield will likely outshoot the shooter for most buyers. The discriminating pros won't buy it and that is not the target audience anyway.

Who is a "discriminating pro"? Most of the pros seem to carry stock or minimally modified polymer guns anyway.

Since large portions of CA are no issue for carry, it has caused a disproportionate lean towards handguns that are strictly range toys and/or competition oriented. Customized triggers and the like just aren't that important for a CCW gun. A mediocre trigger won't make a good shooter bad, but a great trigger won't make a mediocre shooter good.

I carry a Shield 40, so if anything is going to cause a finger boo boo, it'll be the 40. If anything, I feel the recoil in my palm rather than the trigger.

Personally I think the Shield is just as good as a Glock and cheaper.

1" at 21' is basically 3" at 21yds. That's really good considering the bad trigger and short sight radius.

Well I dont CCW mine, Dont have a CCW. But I still love it. I have the OFF roster version FWIW.

Stock everything, excpet for the Magguts +1.

agree to OP, shield is great for carry but not fun at the range

The Shield is a great little pistol. It shoots like a much bigger gun.

My 5'2" wife doesn't have a problem with the trigger or with putting shots on target or with managing the recoil. Hmmmph...

She likes it so much she's talking of getting another one!

So, I picked up my new Shield today, and after removing it from the box, then racking and squeezing the trigger a few times, I don't see what all the fuss is about. It's a short range belly gun after all, and if you have to pull it in self defense, you will be so jacked up on Adrenalin that you won't even notice the trigger pull, or whether it's too heavy/vague to suit you. It can only improve with use, so I'm good with the feel.

two of my brothers ordered them because of the rebate so they paid about 400 otd and finally got to try them out just recently. All i gotta say is "you get what you pay for". What i mean is that it feels really cheap and man thats the worst trigger i've ever played with. It actually created discomfort in my trigger finger because of all the recoil and no where to go except to your finger lol

i guess i cant completely bash it because my first 10 shots were in a 1" group at 21 feet. but it was not FUN to shoot at all

Honestly to all the new and old shield owners, do you honestly love it? is it mainly for carry purposes and not a range toy? because i could see that being the main purpose for this gun and i'll take back all the negatives if this is what you bought it for.

I liked my 9mm Shield so much that I bought a .45 Shield to keep it company. My 2 shields are used for 90% of my carry. I even do IDPA competitions with the .45 occasionally. I also have 3 Glocks and I prefer the shield triggers to 2 of the 3. (My G34 is slightly better)

They have never let me down, shoot like much larger guns and carry well. My 9mm is over 3 years old and carried a lot, yet still looks like new inside and out.

I like the shield for what is. Small, accurate, and easily concealable.

It's my daily carry (purchased for that specific reason) but regularly shot at the range (147gr JHP).

The trigger will smooth out, or you can get the Apex kit, but IMHO, it's really not necessary unless you also want to lighten the trigger a bit (from about 8 to about 5lbs)
IMHO, it's a great gun, comfortable to shoot. Not sure why you have an issue with the recoil... I wouldn't even call it "snappy"... the Glock36 is "snappy"

My brother has one. Shot a box through it. My target looked like I used a shotgun. The take down controls are tight. Would change the sites I like more room between the front post and rear site. Front of grip is a little thin I would need to apply grip tape there. Mine would be a range toy at 7-10 yards.

I bought one for my wife. Kept it. It's small and easy to carry. I prefer my Xds by far though. Much nicer gun IMO but it's a different price point too. And Fewer (though awesome-r) rounds.

Don't underestimate it.

It's no 92FS, but it's accurate.
Never having shot competitively, under a timer, OR drawing from concealment, I was able to pass the NRA Defensive Handgun course with a 92%.
