It is low volume business that will never achieve economies of scale to offer good deals like some better run shops. Vicious circle, you gotta spend money to make money, but you wouldn't believe some of these smaller shops, they don't have $500 in the bank account to pay for a Glock. Numerous time, I've gotten calls, "Do you have a FDE Glock 19? Okay, hold it for me, I'm going to the bank to deposit the money and then call you with my bank card".

And if you did buy that shield for $485, when you found out how much you overpaid, would you ever go back to that same shop?

    MSRP on a Shield 187021 is $469.

Monterey is a seller's market. Is it worth my time and fuel etc. to travel 75 miles each way to say--San Jose, twice, to save $100? Probably not.

In 1982 if you wanted a S&W Model 586 or a 686 you pay more if you wanted it now. The 686 had a MSRP of $330. Most people wanted RR/WO and paid premium. The LGS had a six inch with a partridge sight that they let me have for the MSRP of $330.

Geez, is every shop owner supposed to change their daily price to reflect what's going on sale somewhere else?

Shop somewhere else for a deal, sheesh. BFD

Be a wise shopper, be patient, and realize the difference between wants and needs. Don't be afraid to negotiate, all they can say is no. Talk to the manager or owner when able, they have the most discretion.

OP, $35 in fees on top of the price, you sure? This would be reason #2 never to step a toe back in that FFL. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else.

I'm not angry with capitalism. I realize the market is drenched with the lead up to the election and smaller shops gotta survive. I got a fairly decent price on my glock 30 from there. Only thing keeping me in there this time is nearly 300 dollars in gift cards from family members that didn't know what to get me. So il probably burn them there and try and negotiate an extra mag or some range passes.

Its tough when nearly everything goes thu gallery of guns and my local home ffl that is way below msrp on everything.

Back when Dirty Harry (1971) came out the S&W 44 Magnums was MSRP x 2 or 3. Is it really that important to be the first on the block with that new toy? Look at the craziness with cellular phones.

I dont think there's anything wrong with price shopping to save $50-$100.

But if we're talking about $40 difference I'll just give that extra $ to the shop.

That being said, I have been price shopping for a P2000, and it's hard looking at the $799 price tags here in the Bay Area when I see them online for $591. That alone is worth my time to price shop....

Almost makes me want to ship one in and pay his hundred bucks and still get out the door under his price.

The comment about the price paid in idaho just over 200 hurts so bad since thats where I'm trying to convince my wife to move to.
